Someone just tried to commit suicide infront of me!!!!

I was just on my lunch break, driving to the McDonalds that was like 6 blocks away. well 2 blocks from my worksite, a guy runs out into the street and in front of my car. I slam the breaks. I stop barely 2 inches from colliding with him. I roll down my window to yell some choice words at him, and before I could utter a word, the older male dressed in raggedy clothes yells "WHY THE *EARMUFFS* YOU STOP!!! I am stunned. I quickly shift into reverse and go down another block. This man really wanted to die, and he wanted my vehicle to be the cause of his death. Thats scary.

The street it was on was the under the overpass of 76 in philly. its not really a very nice area. a lot of people dont up that block unless they are drug dealers, or buyer. I dont even like to drive up it myself but its the fastest route to the main road where the mcdonalds is. I bring my lunch most days, but i was lazy today. I will definately bring my lunch tomorrow. But back to the question, no there was noone around because you'd be crazy to walk up that block if you weren't in the know. I am thankful I didn't hit him as well. If that guy wants to die thats his business, but I don't want to be the cause of it.

Nah, as much as i dislike TO, the whole suicide thing is tasteless. potshots over his mancrush for tony romo are ok, but suicide is nothing to joke about

ya know i thought that at first to, but this guy looked homeless, and on top of that everyone knows you jump in front of a lexus or a bmw in that case, not a dogged looking 91 maxima

I cannot explain it, but witnessing a suicide is one of the most traumatic things that can happen to you IMO.

I once had a call for a jumper. 17th floor of a building on 34th St and Broadway in Manhattan. It was a Sunday morning....the guy walked into his office....says hello to the janitor and goes to his window and to the ledge. The janitor looked in to ask the guy why he was there on Sunday and saw him out there. My house was just a few blocks away(31st and 7th) so we were there quick. We get up there and the guy is screaming at us that he's going to jump...we couldn't get within 15 feet of him. We're not supposed to anyway...that's a job for P.D. and their guys.
Anyway....I'm thinking that they will talk this guy back in...but all of a sudden the guy looks back...right at me...I can't tell you what it was...but I knew..he was going...I put it on the radio but he went before I could get the words out. The feeling in my stomach made me want to vomit.
That was one of the worst things to see until a Tuesday morning four years later where I witnessed it too many times that I stopped looking. Different circumstances obviously...but to see a person at the end of their rope...with no hope is sobering to say the least.

Damn that some scary stuff right now. I'm glad you stopped in time because if you hit him and even if it wasn't your fault that kind of thing can still **** with your mind.

I have seen some messed up things. I saw a crash that someone didnt survive. But If i were actually driving and and killed someone i know it would have messed me up. I sure as hell wouldnt be posting right now, I would be too traumatized to explain what the hell happened to the police, let alone be composed enough to sit here and type up what i just experienced. This could have been alot worse. Thankfully I have good brakes, and great reaction time. (this is a time id like to tell my mom all those video games i played as a kid really did help my hand eye coordination.) The thing is, had there been a car parked to obstruct my vision, there would have been no way for me to see him. I saw him dart out in front and as soon as i saw him enter the street from the sidewalk i slammed the brakes. If i glanced down at the radio or the speedometer or the reirview mirror at that second. or as i mentioned earlier he ran between parked cars, i would have had no chance to stop.
