But that’s not the best part. According to Harper’s, Google and its competitors have now started building data centers in places like Lithuania, Dublin, Siberia, and Shanghai. What do all these locations have in common? Except for Lithuania, where 78% of the power will be nuclear, all of them rely on carbon-spewing energy production with lower prices and fewer controls on emissions. So much for Earth Hour, eh?

While Google scolds the rest of the world about turning off the lights, this month’s Harper’s has an interesting look at Google’s plans to exploit cheap electricity in Oregon. Thanks to a boatload of government subsidies, Google located its new server farm on the Columbia River — where it will use enough electricity to light Tacoma, Washington.

Hmmm I thought the government is gonna shut off the electricity for us (at least here in Ontario) Oh well i'll find out soon enough. If that's not the case then HUZZAH! I'll be doing something that requires electricity
If they really cared they'd do an Earth Month where everybody has to turn off their lights and electricity for a whole month after sunset. Of course that'd be way too inconvenient. So this is just like the Earth Day concerts where they tried to raise money for the environment but the carbon footprint was quadrupled in the areas where the concerts took place!Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Couldn't have said it better. Sad to say, I've gotten numb to comments like that because it is so pervasive in society now. Disagree with someone, call them a name and feel good about yourself.
Anyway, here are some sweet pics off the Net courtesy of the morons and nitwits in Detroit and Chicago

And just because some of the "greenies" are hypocrites does not mean that the entire idea of global warming is a fraud.Comment

Spectre I know Toronto is viewed as a smaller Chicago but I think claiming the Toronto skyline as Chicago is taking it overboard.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

So is it a better idea to have all the lights off then overload the grid when all the lights come back on at the same time?Comment
