Have Any Of You Ever Had Any Life Changing Experiences

Where it gave you a different aspect on life or that you would never be alive the next day?

I know for me personally, especially in the area where I live, I've had a few unfortunate experiences myself from being robbed for stupid sh*t such a freakin jacket and a pair of shoes to almost getting shot and killed for something I had nothing to do with.

But yea...if you want to, you can share your experience as well.

Getting a DWI in February..Now I have no license, have to pay $1400 in fines and have probation for a year with 40 hours of community service..I've learned my lesson, plus my drinking had gotten out of control (which I haven't stopped drinking totally now)

-- driving home drunk, thank god no one killed or injured - arrived home ok.. happened about 10 years ago, and never did that again.. I am either the DD now or take a cab if I drink..

-- having a suitemate in my senior year of college commit suicide - really was a big jolt of reality to me..

My uncle committing suicide about five years ago. It came out of nowhere and was just such a bad time.

Yeah, definitely. Only YP & J-Wood really know about it, though.

                Thanks.

The good that I've tried to take from it is realizing just how debilitating mental illness is. Hopefully if I meet someone in the future who needs help I'll realize it instead of letting them fall deeper and deeper into the trap. For the most part people just don't try to hurt themselves unless they're in a very bad state of mind and I don't believe that enough people realize how debilitating depression or some other type of mental illness can be.

I'm still young, so I have a lot to see. I tore my ACL when I was in 10th grade, and it was then when I decided to get real serious about academics. Also, at that point I started to find another hobby besides playing basketball. Now I do music.

getting a DWI about 2 years ago. I'll never forget it because it was the day Italy played the US in the WC and I watched it from the holding pen. Besides the lawyer fees, court fines, alcholol classes, and restricted license it changed my life for the better. I rarely drink anymore and I'm paranoid about driving when I've had a drink. DUI's suck but DUI's in Virginia are even worse.

Re: Have Any Of You Ever Had Any Life Changing Experiences

For me it was the year 1991. I

n January my Grandfather died after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease, by the end he didn't even know who I was, which for an 11 year old who is the only grandchild is pretty hard to go through.

It took time to go over, then in May/June a close family friend who was basically like my second Grandfather (my biological paternal grandfather died before my mother was even born) committed suicide when he his cancer went out of remission.

Then in October of the same year my father died from a rare strain of pneumonia after battling leukemia for three years. When this happened his estate took forever to settle because of the way my Grandmother wrote her will. We went from living a very comfortable lifestyle to having nothing, my mother raided a trust fund left for me to pay the mortgage and then to buy a new home in Burlington.

It was around this time I came to the realization there is in fact no God, and if there is a God it certainly isn't one who is worthy of worship. This is what I learned at a young age (don't respond to this part) from losing every male I had in my wife within 9 months. What made this worse is my mother left me in Catholic schools for the next 6 years (I went to a Catholic college on my own) where I had to have that crap jammed down my throat. I had one religion teacher go as far as to say those who die of diseases like cancer or Alzheimer's do so because they were sinners who could not be saved. It was a miracle I didn't snap her neck in class honestly, I have my old friend to thank for telling me to let it go, we know who's really going to Hell.

At the end of the year for the first time this teacher had us write reviews of the class. I made the bitch cry and to do this day I take pleasure in doing so. I still hope she dies from one of those diseases, even 12 years later.

lost my younger sister (my only sibling) and almost my dad in an auto accident just days after graduating high school (1994). it just boggles my mind to think how much different life would be today.

I had a 6 month period where my Dad and both Grandfathers and one Grandmother died...I remember spending a LOT of time in a black suit!

A couple years before, tho, was the 'big one'...

I was drunk, flipped my car and broke my jaw in eight places and lost so much blood that I had the 'out of body' experience associated with death...

Luckily, my three friends traveling with me were unhurt and got an ambulance by kocking on doors (this was pre cell phones, kids)...

After that, I was unable to go to my first semester in college, which I was only attending to make my parents happy and avoid a full time job...

In the six month delay, my previously underdevloped 'bad attitude' truly blossomed and I decided, with no formal training or decernable talent, to start a band...

One thing lead to another and I've played, produced, promoted and marketed music for my entire adult life...

Downside, I still have dental problems and rare phantom pain to this day...

That accident was the best thing that ever happened to me...

Made me relaize that we only have one ride on this earth and I'll be damned if I don't do it "My Way"

Battled depression something awful my junior year of college ('97-'98). 12 months of pure hell, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. It shaped who I am today.
