My girlfriend is pissed at me....help plz

I've just read a few topics related to issues here on OS...you guys are like some bootleg counselors and pretty good at it too so...here lies my problem.

My girlfriend was never really extra girly, she used to be a sports trainer wrapping ankles, making casts, dealing with breaks and sprains, athletes vomiting, like you name it she's seen it. Anyway on a regular basis we watch movies and Tv shows together some of her favorites being anything CSI, and most action films with a good story. So one day X-Men 3 comes on HBO so we decide to watch it, I don't know if any of you seen it yet but its been out for a long time so I hope I'm not spoiling anything.

the part where angel as a young boy is trying to cut his wings off is our main focus.

She absolutely freaks, like really she almost vomited and was really really disturbed by this maybe....2 minutes of movie. So trying to be nice I ask her what seems to be the problem why did that bother you? Her response: It was gross, how could you look at that?

Mind you for those who have seen it the scene isn't very graphic its just implied to as what he is doing by him hiding the blade and seeing feathers all over the floor.

So I ask her if its something she wants to talk about and she spazzes and leaves the room and barely speaks to me. So I ask if its a touchy subject from the past maybe she used to mutilate herself (i hope not) or knows somebody who does.

Am I an ******* for asking what her issue is? Or am I on the right track??

She's sounds kind of hysterical so the best move is to just say nothing and let her calm down. Then, when she's calm, talk about it in a civilized manner.

technically I did....i thought she was messing with me at first so I ignored it and made fun of it then I came to the realization she was really upset....

I dunno if I was clear but I really wanna know how to approach such a touchy subject because no normal person with a strong stomach for much worse sees implied mutilation and goes all ape ****.

The "is it something from the past" thing doomed you. You should've made a little joke and left it at that instead of trying to pry deeply while still watching the movie.

Me: Uh..ok? U watch CSI babydoll and sit there unflinching

Me: Haha....wait your really bothered by this kid?
Her: (Silence)
Me: My bad (insert name) I didn't know forreal, imma skip this part from now on ight I don't think the kid goes all emo for the rest of the flick
Her: You got problems (storms off)

edit: After I sat on the couch by myself for a while I thought about it some and then I asked her about it. I mean I'm concerned wouldn't you be??

I think you hit on something deep. Best advice I have is to just steer clear of it right now. If she wants to talk about it, don't avoid it, by all means talk, but otherwise... avoid it.

I think you are ready too much into it! That is a pretty trippy scene. I remember freaking too. Cutting the wings off the body is going to make a lot of girls trip. I know my wife did, and so did my friends wife when we saw it at the movie theater.

not that time of the month for sure. I don't know I can't just leave it alone though its just not in my character. If something doesn't seem right I have to find out why not so much fix it but I gotta know why its the way it is. Especially with people I care about......and the ones who cook my food and have keys to my home....if she is showing crazy tendencies now I wanna nip that in the bud ASAP

and to the poster who said alot of people freak at that part, I'm sure of that I mean it is kinda touchy. But I'm just lost how she watched Running Scared and didnt flinch at the hockey scene but went all paled faced when angel tried to lose his wings.

I've decided to leave her be for today (best advice I've gotten so far)......not trying to ruin the night but man its gunna be hard.

A. Maybe she had her wings cut off at a young age.

I have a 4 year degree in Psychology, However this, in no way gives me the qualification to delve deep into this. I will just tell you what I think.

First of all you need to forget the CSI stuff, the athletic training, and anything else.

It seems to me you may be making something out of nothing. She may have had something on her mind and that scene may have just pissed her off more than anything. Has she ever displayed any behavior similar in the past? As far as jumping to "she may mutilate herself, or know someone who does" that is a pretty far leap. You would have surely seen signs before this.

We all have different gross out factors. I can't watch the Final Destination movies, the death scenes make me sick, literally. Seeing blood and feathers is far from pleasant.

My advise to you would be to apologize to her for not being more sensitive about the situation, and give her some positive reinforcement. Say something like "yeah that is a pretty messed up scene." She should be find, and for future reference, don't watch X-Men 3.

I love these posts.

Maybe to ease the tension you should get a doll Angel and cut the wings off and leave the feathers all over her bad. Then when she sees it jump out of the closet and yell suprise!

I bet that will smooth things over.
