    Career in sports stat tracking?

What does it take to get some kind of career in sports stat tracking or something like that? I have always been a stat person and writing them down has never bothered me, I think being in leagues and having to right down stats for my games got me into it.

This is all just long info about my stat tracking history

    Spoiler

So what do you have to major in and what classes could I possibly take? Is it more just going into radio and coming into the position?

We have a Major of Math and Stats at Concordia U.

    So I'm guessing that class.

you're gonna have to get more experience before they would consider hiring you, but I know STATS inc. hires tons of people for local stat keeping jobs. I don't think it would be a full time job but it would be a nice start.

As far as college classes and college stuff, I'd say get involved with the athletic department somehow. Aside from taking some math classes, sports management or sports information would be good majors for you. Find a way to help with stats whether it's for the football team or if it's for the softball team. Just getting involved and getting experience will go a long way to helping get a job in what you're looking for.

This has got me a little interested, I'm really thinking about asking my old football coach about taking stats next season.

How far could you take this, and what math classes would you need to take?

Definitely get involved in whatever college's athletic department. If you can, try and work in Sport Information. VOLUNTEER if you have to. Anything to get experience and network with people. Even if there are no available openings in Sports Info, try and work in their marketing or compliance department, really anything. Then when a position opens, you have already been working in that athletic department.

You need a lot of math and stat classes. I think they also like to see people that have the ability to create their own stats.

              Move to CT.

SportsTicker, formerly owned by ESPN until last year, does all of this. ESPN obviously still does this to a lesser extent but they mostly outsource this to SportsTicker. Three of my friends who now work at ESPN with decent jobs (for their mid-20's) started at SportsTicker. Kinda a minor league for ESPN.

But now for the bad news, prepare to make $12/hr and work all weekends and most nights.
