    Question about a sleeping habit...

I wake up every morning and my arm is completely dead from sleeping on it...no matter how I sleep my arms end up under my body and I end up cutting of my circulation. I have to move my arm w\ my other hand every literally morning to "wake it up"...

What I want to know is...is that bad for you to keep doing that?
I just have this feeling im gonna wake up and my arms going to be dead forever....lol

That happens to me sometimes. It was pretty weird the first time it happened, not being able to move my arm and having to lift it up and give it life.

I don't know if there are any long-term ramifications though.

I like to sleep on the side, having my arm underneath the pillow. I never have any problem when waking up.

It can if it were hours upon hours.

More likely it's only been a few long minutes. It's extremely rare for people to remain in one position all night so the possibility of causing nerve damage is minimal.

Limbs going numb during sleep is very common. Probably more so than you think. But again, the chances of facing serious issues as a result of this are very very small. You'd probably have to be passed out drunk or high on drugs.

The best solution is to find a new position to sleep in to minimize the risk.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Man, I have this problem almost every morning. Wake up on my stomach, arms across my chest like a reverse vampire, and one of them is sleep, even that painful "pins in the arms" feeling sometimes, I think you should go to the doctor and find out if there are any longterm ramifications so I don't have to, keep me updated lol

Most likely it would be nothing if you are laying on your arms. If it does it without laying on them, then you could have low blood pressure, high cholesterol, poor circulation. Try a new way to sleep.

Yeah, I get the numb arm thing every now and then, but it's pretty rare. One time my leg was totally numb and I completely ate **** getting out of bed -- just straight-up collapsed when I stepped out and then started laughing when I realized what happened.

I always sleep on my stomach or my side -- I can never get comfortable on my back. Putting my arms underneath the pillow rather than underneath my head/face (on top of the pillow) seems to have helped with the numb arm thing.

Heh, the numb arm thing doesn't bother me too much. I swing it around all crazy until it 'wakes up' because it looks/feels weird. You don't realize how much your arms weigh until you lift one of them with your other arm haha..

I heard sleeping on your stomach is horrible for you. Supposedly it messes with your spine, having something to do with your head being cocked to the right or left.

Unless you do what I used to do. I put my head between 2 pillows, one on each side, and put my face between them, kind of like a massage chair thing for your face. I liked it, got rid of any noise, pillows near the ears, put your arms around or under the pillows.

Damn, like I said I sleep on my stomach all the time, that's probably why my back feels like T-Mac's in the 4th quarter. I always tell people "the doctor say I need a backeotomy"
