I've lost 23lbs since the beginning of the year!!

Yes, I am patting myself on the back a little bit here and yes I am proud of losing these 23lbs in about 5 months. On January 1st I weighed myself at 203lbs and just the other night I weighed myself at 180lbs even. I thought I was down to 175 but my scale was off by 5lbs for some reason.

I am 5'8" tall and I know that I was overweight. So my resolution this year was to lose weight. Now, while happy with the loss of the extra pounds, I want to lose a little more. My goal was to go from 203 down to 170 which I feel is a good weight for someone my height.

Now I know that OS has some fitness guru's on here and am seeking your help. I have 2 questions for you. They are:

1: What is the "ideal" weight for someone my height? At least a ballpark figure.

2: What can I do to not only drop the other 10lbs but also to tone my body? I do lift weights but could use a guideline as to get the most out of my workouts. I do jog every morning with my dog in the park and do eat sensibly.

My goal is to be 170lbs by June 1st. Realistic or not, that is what I am going to hold myself to.

Thanks in advance. Any and all help is appreciated
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Congrats Country. I started about 3 weeks ago eating better and cutting down on the pop/soda (since it is hard to go cold turkey). I have noticed that I am less bloated and my clothes are fitting a little better. I am hoping that this helps me on the road to losing about 20-25 lbs. I am around 224 right now.

        Thanks!

The eating portion of the weight loss has been the toughest. I have not had potato chips in my house since the first of the year nor have I had those Little Debbie cakes and such. The worst sweet that I eat is ice cream, but I have done a pretty good job in monitoring it. Maybe once or twice a week.

I have an excercise routine, at least I call it that, that I do everyday. I jog/walk every morning and evening on various trails in my local park with my workout buddy, my dog. Then I come home and do the following:

        30 sit ups
        30 push ups
        25 crunches
        50 Jumping Jacks

I lift weights on occasion, but would like a simple, novice weightlifting plan that could help me tone my body and one that I could do on a weekly schedule. I have a full weight set with bench and all sat up in my basement.

I really can't think of anything else that I have been doing. I do drink more water than usual.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Good luck Candyman. I started only drinking Diet Caffenine(sp?) Free Pepsi's. They actually taste pretty good, but have limited myself to one a day at lunchtime.

My worst culprit in drinks has either got to be, coffee or iced tea. I drink quite a bit of coffee at work, its decaf, and have replaced soda with iced tea. The other problem I run into is that I grill alot during the summer. Steaks, ribs, chicken, chops...man I gotta stop and go grill something.

Again, good luck with the weight loss.

Thanks Country. I also drink coffee on a daily basis and kind of funny you mention iced tea, I replaced pop with the iced tea also. I actually am enjoying the iced tea a lot more. Every few days I get a craving for pop, so I will have just 1 can to knock it out of my system. LOL!

LOL! Steaks, Chicken, making me hungry again.

I love iced tea. I used to alternate it with soda, but have since made it my primary drink. I should probably replace the tea that I drink while on the internet or playing games with water, but thats another battle for a different day.

Congrats fellow Hoosier. Eating right is the hardest part for me. I do not mind doing the exercise and putting in the time. The problem is I like to eat. I just need to do a better job of eating the right foods.

this is a pretty good page to see what your ideal weight should be according to your height.

The most interesting Ideal Weight calculator on the internet.

Take it with a grain of salt because it doesn't factor in muscle mass or bf%.

I'm "overweight" even though 100% of people would say I'm not if they saw me.

                            Me: 6-3 -- 201
