Folks That Grew Up In "Rough Areas" aka Talkin Bout The Ghetto

What was your experience like growing up there?

Do you feel that there were some things you couldn't learn about by growing up in a "Upper Class" Area aka "Suburb"?

I'll let some of you post then post my experience growing up there.

      LOL! ^^

I had the fortune of growing up in both the hood and the burbs. Born in a grimey part of Long Beach and lived there until 5th grade.. before moving to Oregon and one of the most affluent areas in the state [Lake Oswego, word to Kevin Love, Neil Lomax and Salim Stoudamire]. Now that I'm back in LB, I actually think back on my childhood and get emotional. Seriously. I go back to the block I grew up on.. and see how volatile it really is.

      LB:
-Ghetto bird helicopters over your building every single damn night, it'd seem like they were landing on top of your damn roof
-Cops and those flashing lights in the daytime, night time, anytime
-The L.A. riots.. and everyone on my block choosing to stay indoors
-Constant screaming and yelling and noise at all hours of the day. It's never quiet in the hood, when it's quiet you know something's about to go down or something's wrong.
-Everyone walks outside everyone plays outside
So much more but I can't think of any.. I'm glad to be back in Long Beach but out of the hood.

What did I learn about living in the ghetto, Georgetown South, as a kid?

That I never want to return there.

As soon as I read this, I knew it had to be the person who started the "what grade is u in?" thread.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Oh God. I've never been more scared than when I feared the OS Massacre.
