    Re: Any Kinesiology Majors?

I am a coach, but I did not major in Kinesiology. I got my degree in Business management and then took an accelerated certification program. I got to teach while I took my classes and didn't have to student teach. It worked out good for me, but a lot of the programs have changed now. I didn't take one kinesiology course or pedagogy(spelling) course. A lot of the region service centers offer this option as well as schools tehmselves. Well, it is just a thought I though I'd give you.

I got my BS in Kinesiology in 05. I changed from Telecomm halfway through my sophomore year. Send me a PM if you want some more details.

Well right now I'm either thinking Kinesiology or Education 4-8 with a Coaching Minor.

I'm currently doing a minor in Kines. I'm not taking any of the Bio classes or anything like that though. I can finish the minor only taking history and philosophy classes.

(I'm majoring in Journalism and also minoring in Theatre.)

What do you do specifically with Recreation?

I work with folks who are disabled, at a facility. Pretty much I just take people out and have fun, but we do some kinds of therapeutic things like swimming, working out etc...I just kind of stumbled across the job. I was substitute teaching and saw this job posted, it required a rec or P.E. degree so I applied, I ended up with a lot better paying state job with great benefits.

Kinese is a good major, I just think there are some easier routes to becoming a coach that a university doesn't tell you about. Also, u can miss out on some of the BS classes like, running, gymnastics, dancing, etc. I almost went Kinese, sometimes wish I would have, but by going business i got to see life outside of coaching and really found out that coaching is what i want to do. Good luck, my advice is look to specialize in math, english, or science if you always want a job, but with the TAKS standards of today it is tuff to be in a core area. So sometimes pe, health, technology, speech, or any area like this isn't too bad for class loads.

Thanks 4-8 Generalist may be a little too much. Maybe I'll just go Kinesiology and minor in Coaching.
