Re: CRAZY!!!
This is fascinating but I think for different reasons.
It's unfortunate that I wouldn't want this to happen but if it did I hope we can take advantage of their knowledge.
We've been trying to figure out what the Mayans were doing, how they did it, and what they were really all about in their past. There have been questions about other great civilizations as well. What the heck is Stonehenge, for one.
Now, we have this tribe that knows basically nothing about the world around them and they are preparing to fire at a plane. That is fascinating to me.
What do they think this airplane is? Do they think it's a winged demon? Have they connected it to their religion and beliefs? Perhaps, if we can figure out what they think (and it'll likely be wrong but I'm not blaming them for this) then maybe we can try to figure out what other civilizations were actually saying. Maybe they were wrong. Writing only from their own perspective.
Imagine, for example, your house was burned and buried for 1000 years. Some things were salvagable and this ruin was now discovered 1000 years later. Do you think people would translate your writings, hobbies, interest, even your collection of items accurately?
LOL, ever take an anthropology class? Yeah I think this stuff is crazy too. If thousands of years ago anybody saw an airplane, what would they try to explain it as? A god? A demon? An omen? It is crazy to just sit and think how you would interpret something like that in their situation.
On your last point, its creepy to think of. I've been to Pompeii where those who died were essentially frozen in the moment they died. It is creepy to find the things they had, what some who tried to escape were carrying, what they left behind. I don't think people in the future would translate most things accurately, although they have so much better of a chance than we do with past cultures (due to mass media, and the sheer volume of things we store in special chambers to keep safe). It is crazy to try to think about what all your possessions mean to you, and what other people would think when they saw all of them.Comment

Re: CRAZY!!!
Something else I would note, and hope that this is payed further attention to in the future with dealing with this tribe (because we all know this isn't the end of their contact with the outside world in the near future): Taking pictures of them directly should be held off if it is at all possible. Many cultures (including some in Amazonia) have this belief that a photograph literally steals the soul from a person. We might think this is funny and/or a crazy belief, but if somebody came up to the average person and took their soul without asking, I am sure that would be very traumatic for them.
While I am curious about these people, I also do not want to see them become news stories all over the news. What they are in for is a huge culture shock which could easily absorb their culture in a heartbeat. Maybe it is the nostalgic historian in me, but I would like to see these people left alone.Comment

It's sad to me that none of these people have ever seen one episode of Seinfeld. But then in a way it's inspiring because they have the potential for so many laughs too.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20
