People sue for the stupidest things.

EDIT : This was kind of taken the wrong way. See my last post in this thread for reasoning.

You think being seperated from your twin & parents is a stupid thing?

Can you imagine the emotional trauma this person went through? This is a very valid lawsuit.

Okay. Here's my thought process. And my thoughts on suing in general. And here are some questions that I asked myself.

What do you consider the point of sueing in this situation? According to law how can the person go about achieving it? How would suing give you mental relief is this situation?

In my thoughts right now. This would give her no mental relief whatsoever because all she gets is money. If she's really in that much distress what will money do for her? Does money make her happy? Why sue if your not getting mental relief. That should be the point here.

Lawsuit judgements are as much about punishment for carelessness & recklessness as it is for mental anguish. The penalty imposed is given to the victim. By your thought process, no lawsuit should ever take place.

Ok, are we forgetting the facts here?

Her sister was brought up alongside another girl that she believed was her twin.

How do the parents not realize that, oh, I don't know, her freaking twin doesn't look like her?

                  Goodness.

You read an article about an emotionally stressed woman and I read dumb parents.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

                    Not all twins are identical.

In a way that's exactly what I think.

The main thing is for me is that in my opinion law suits don't really benefit the person that's suing. Whatever happens because of the lawsuit won't give me or them mental relief. Sorry I didn't explain myself earlier.

So what should be done to people who make gross mistakes like this that cause mental anguish? What deterrent would you recommend?

No, I realize that there are fraternal twins.

But even brothers and sisters born in different years look alike in some way.

Who did they think this assumed daughter look like? She wasn't family. So they didn't realize that she didn't look like anyone?
