I wouldn't call it a choke, Big Brown had a huge crack on 1 of it's front hooves and probably shouldn't have raced at all. At least Big Brown finished and didn't end up like Eight Belles.

      amen

Thankfully, at least this time, greed didn't kill a horse.

Considering the way Big Brown dominated the first two races, it would have taken a catastrophic event to keep him out of the Belmont.

Let's not overexaggerate here. The crack was small and plenty of horses have ran with much worse hooves than BB had. Now maybe the Winstrol(steroid) not being used for this race might have played a part.

Just because other horses ran with hoof problems, doesn't make it right for the trainer to put a horse out there in that condition.

I know you're kidding, but even as a sure thing, 1-4 odds aren't worth taking.

For something to be 1-4 odds, it'd literally have to be the Patriots vs a winless 3rd grade team.

Mathematically, it just about makes more sense to lay money down on every other horse than to take 1-4 odds.

The trainer gave Big Brown Winstrol on the 15th of the month, so Big Brown only had the Winstrol injection before the Preakness. The hoof crack played more into Big Brown not running well today then the lack of Winstrol did.

It was a small cracked hoof. Thats not a catastrophic injury by any means. ESPN hyped that up just so it would be more compelling when he won. I think the biggest reason Brown didn't get the job done was because Dutrow didn't shoot him up with Winstrol before the race.

And with the 1-4 odds things thats just to win. People could make money by betting him in the exacta, trifecta, ect.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who cares about the steroids issue revolving around Big Brown and his trainers. Had he won it probably would never have been heard of again, given that there hasn't been a Triple Crown winner in 30-some-odd years.

Call me crazy/stupid, but the horse is an athlete too, and it and its caretakers should be held to the same standard.

maybe thats not a catastrophic injury by itself, but it could've lead to a catastrophic injury. One mis-step, due to him favoring that foot, and he could've broken a leg, broken an ankle and then what? He's dead.

Its not the cracked hoof thats the issue, its the risk of putting the horse out there to race with a cracked hoof thats a problem. What is the old line that you hear in bad guy movies, "One false move and you're dead?" Never has a line been more true in horse racing.

I'm glad the horse didn't win, that trainer douche was in dire need of a gigantic helping of humble pie.

I cant believe we are sitting here getting angry over speculation of what might have happened due to the crack, it didnt happen, the horse is fine so move on. Its almost like people need something to complain about, nothing happened so now we are speculating about what could have happened, well it didnt so let it go already.
