Is he trying to scam me somehow?

I am selling my old car on Craigslist and I got an e-mail from a guy wanting more info on it, so I sent that then he responded with this...

"Hello... I really appreciate your response to my mail.I want you to consider it sold, pls do withdraw the advert from craigslist to avoid disturbance.I want you to know that i will be paying via bank certified check .I will need you to provide me with the following.information to facilitate the mailing of the check .
1.....Full name to write on the check
2.....Full Physical address to post the check
3.....Home & Cell Phone to contact you
**I will like you to know that you will not be responsible for shipping i will have my mover come over as soon as you have cashed the check** Thanks"

I've never sold on CL before (only eBay), I figured he couldn't really do anything with the info he was asking for, and the info I gave would work for me to cash a check, but he wouldn't be able to use the info to hurt me because of address things and name things and such that work in my favor with my current living situation and the way my bank account is set up. But it still seems a little strange to me, but I may just be paranoid....what do y'all think?

It sounds like he is going to be using a cashiers check, which is basically just as good as money. He probably wants your numbers so he can contact you via phone if he needs to, and he probably needs your name and possibly the address so he knows who the bank should make the check out to.

It doesn't sound like he can scam you somehow with the information he is asking for. I would get the check from him and take it to your banker and see if it will clear or if it is legit before you hand over the car though. Just to cover your a**.

Yea, I'm definitely making sure any money is good before I let the car go.

it just got a bit more sketch, I sent the info to him then got this...

      "Hello Nick,
How are you and how is your weekend? Hope everything if ok? .Well i will like to tell you that you will receive the payment asap.I just got married last week, and will be going for my honeymoon in Dubai somewhere in the Asia this week. I might not be around to coordinate the pick up,and i will not want any delay from my side regarding the pick up,soon as you receive the payment, and get payment cashed. Then, I will instruct my shipper to get in contact with you for the pick up schedule time and date. so i will be sending the money to cover the shipment of the item, . You will receive the payment of $3,500 As soon as you have it, i will want you to deduct your money plus $100 for your effort and send the balance to the shipper via money gram at any walmart store around you, the shipper will be pick up some other items for me in your city. I want to buy this item for our new apartment which we will be packing into as soon as we return from Dubai. I hope i can count on you to do this for me.
I will await your response asap, so that we can set the ball rolling. Till i read from you, stay blessed.
      Regards."

Its starting to seem that this is automated or something, no specifics on items or towns...oh well, i thought I was gonna get this thing off my hands and get money in my pocket... :\

I told him to call me to sort things out because it was starting to sound troublesome...

"I use an hearing impaired phone as am a deaf person so please leave voice message on my relay # at 203-600-4309 i will receive that as an email or better still send me an email with the required details for faster response, regards"

trust me dude, it is a scam. when they say things like coordinate a pickup, code for scam. really tho, the cashiers check is a dead giveaway as well. also telling you he wants you to pay his shipper out of the money he gives you, the way they HOPE this works is this, he sends you a fake cashiers check. you deposit it into your bank account thinking it is legit. they hope you don't really pay attention and have the cash to cover doing the rest of the stuff yourself and just do all of it anyways. 10 days later you get a notice from your bank saying the check was a fake but by then you have parted ways with your item, and paid THEM money as well.

Sounds like a scam to me. I wouldn't have even sent him my info, but that's just me.

This is the part that caught my eye. Sounds like a typical scam statement to me. Maybe I'm wrong, but I wouldn't have sent him anything.

Yeah it's a scam. Giveaways are

                  1. No voicemail (the hearing impared thing coming out of nowhere? He should have mentioned this when you were talking about phone numbers)

                  2. Suddenly getting married? That doesn't fly, again should have been mentioned earlier.

                  3. Payment.

call the police, set it up with them so they give you an address to use and bust them when they come to pick it up

I know a guy who almost got burned on ebay selling his bike this way. Sent ~$8,000 check and wanted to pay money to the shipper. The guy is a trusting guy, so he said fine, but thankfully he waited for the check to clear and when it didn't, he would have been out the $8,000 and his bike.

You should not call the cops, meet up with him, and straight up murder his ***.

Re: Is he trying to scam me somehow?

Total scam, my folks had the exact same story given to them, minus the wedding garbage. My Dad was selling some furniture on craigs list and got the same story, they would mail a Walmart money order that would cover the cost of the item and then give the difference, minus 100.00, to the movers who would then pick it up for him. What was strange was he was in New Jersey for starters so why would he be so interested in paying through the nose to mail furniture from Oregon to Jersey. When we received the money order we took it to Walmart to see how real it was, as well as the bank and both said it was bogus, completely fake. We kept correspondence with the guy just to jerk him around a little but he finally gave up and left us alone after awhile. Another thing to consider with this, if you put that check in the bank, whether it be personal, cashiers etc, and they find out its fake, cant they come after you for trying to pass a bad check or check fraud? At that point then you have to prove who sent it to you and that might be difficult when its all a scam anyways, just food for thought.
