Did I overreact?

I coach a little league baseball team and currently coach the allstar team for the entire league. I coach 3rd and the manager pitches. The kids are 6-8. I have no kids but needed something to occupy my time after leaving ball. Me and the manager are good friends and talk on a regular basis.

Today during the 3rd inning a kid in the outfield drops a fly ball. The manager slings a helmet and hits the kid on the bench sitting beside me (not the same one who missed the fly, one just out of the inning). Only me and the dad of the kid saw he incident. The kid started to cry so I check to make sure he is alright. The parent doesnt seem too upset but is not happy. But I am pissed, I looked at the coach and told him that it better not ever happen again and that next time I would deal with it. I said nothing to him the rest of the game because I am the kind of person that needs to calm down and the next day I am fine and all is well. He did not mean to hit him with the helmet but I felt it was inappropriate the way he acted.

So did I overreact and out of line?

I feel like it is my job to make sure nothing bad happens to the kids as the parents trust us with them.

P.S. We won anyway.

You were not out of line. You have to stand up and let the coach know HE was out of line, which you did in a responsible way.

They're 6-8 years old!!!

That guy is a douche, I mean the kids are only 6-8, let them have fun it's THEIR all star game.

I agree with stewaat, maybe if they were HS level that kind of reaction would have been acceptable but not 6-8 years old.

I think he was more stunned than anything at the action.

You absolutely did the right thing- that's disgusting. Why would a manager get upset at what 6-8 year old kids do? The outburst is nothing compared to actually hitting that poor kid with the helmet. I'd have the guy removed from the team personally if I was in your position.
