Has anyone else noticed aggressive driving lately?

I'm talking about the kind that are constantly tailgating in residential zones, the kind that are weaving without the usage of blinkers and going 20 MPH faster than freeway traffic, and the kind that are rolling through stop signs and not giving you the right of way. So far, I've only witnessed this in male drivers, but it has been like this for maybe the last two weeks. And it's literally like every time I go out to drive, even if it's for a two minute drive to Subway. I don't know if it's the heat or what, but it seems people are constantly trying to get somewhere quickly all of the sudden.

I haven't seen it like this in a long time. When there are tailgaters, I'm slamming on the brakes then quickly driving away. I think they get the message, but then they seem to find someone else to do it to.

Keep in mind that I'm not one of these aggressive drivers I'm speaking of. My current location is San Mateo (Bay Area), California. I don't know if it's only local or what.

That sounds like downtown Toronto minus the tailgating. One time last summer I went downtown to see my eye specialist and as my mother and I were driving home this guy sped up right behind the car made an aggressive right turn, sped up again and BAM!

He cut my mother off. I seriously said to my mother "you should've knocked his fenders off!" Sure it'd cause damage but it'd show how reckless and stupid that kind of driving is.

Ever since I started driving my new car, I have really noticed people driving extremely aggressively. I almost got hit because someone tried to go from the stop sign when I was going and the guy clearly saw me.

Tailgating is bad? You've got it all wrong my friend.

There's nothing better than some good ol' fashioned bump drafting!

This isn't even your standard run-of-the-mill tailgating. I mean I'm exiting a freeway at about 35 going to the stop, and a guy is riding my *** no more than 15 feet behind me and just gaining ground... we are approaching a stop! This happened once today already, and I caught another tailgater earlier today doing a cloverleaf merge onto a freeway, as the Porsche literally tried to squeeze on the inside of me, in one lane.

And it was just an all of the sudden kind of thing. I haven't seen people aggressive like this on a consistent basis ever, especially in Northern California. I understand Southern California's tendency to take lanes aggressively while merging on freeways, but that's really it.

I swear I smell a bumper accident coming my way this summer.

It's the bay area mentality. I'm in SF for work from LA and the drivers up here are much worse than normal LA traffic. I usually get off work around 3:30am and run through every stop sign near the port (work w/ longshoreman). I have to remind myself when driving during "normal" hours to slow down and stop at stops signs because I'm so used to driving like a madman when normal people are sound asleep.

I haven't noticed aggressive driving, actually the exact opposite, it is nearly impossible to go the speed limit around here anymore because some moron has to go 5-10 under.

lol, I thought that was even called the "california roll". I've got a warning from a police officer for doing it.

When I lived in Central Cali-All the time, one of the many reasons why I got out of there. The population was growing faster than the City could. I couldn't ask for more polite drivers where I am now. The only bad one's for the most part are the tourists from out of state-which is probably the OP's problem. School is out too-more traffic-more people on the road=more problems. I'm sure the hot weather isn't much help either.

You have no idea what agressive driving is, believe me. If you drived here for a week you wouldn't want to drive again (not opinion).

Oh I believe you because I witnessed it with my own eyes. I was visiting familly and friends in late November in Europe specifically Albania and saw firsthand the crazy driving. I mean people were all jammed up in an intersection all going in separate directions. The roads are narrow with people walking and riding bikes in between the cars. There's just non stop honking. It's just chaos. I didn't even drive a car because I was afraid for my life. I don't know how to explain the madness but I will never ever get behind the wheel there. Chicago traffic is a piece of cake compared to that madness.
