    Tornado Warning in Columbus

I don't know how many OSers are in Columbus but there's a huge storm for all of Franklin county. I'm around Dublin and Upper Arlington and there were some really weird clouds and a lot of lightning. I'm in my basement now. Everybody who's in the Columbus area just be safe.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Good luck jmood, and anyone else in that region

I absolutely hate tornadoes. In fact, I'd say they are my most hated natural disaster. I'd much rather face a month long blizzard than a 30 second tornado. They come out of no where, and there is nothing you can do.

For real. This thing just came out of nowhere as I was driving home, I didn't even know there was going to be any kind of storm or anything.

Up here in Toledo this storm just popped up and was crazy in regards to lightening. I actually watched some hit not that far from my house. Nearly went deaf from the thunder, my house shook so bad.

The thing I hate about tornados is that nobody takes them seriously. I'll be hanging out with people, the sirens will be going off, and everybody just wants to stay on the second floor of a building. I've seen one forming over my head before, which ended up touching down causing some damage when I was 9, and since have been very wary of them.

I would say that earthquakes are the worst. They come out of no where and there isn't any warning. At least with a tornado you have some type of warning.

A tornado hit my town last month. I was actually working out at my gym which was located 1.3 miles from where it touched down.

I heard the tornado sirens going off and looked at the window. The clouds looked like they were about to touch the ground and I guess they did. I didn't even know a tornado had touched down until the next day when there was a news story on it. Pretty scary but it only turned out to be an F0 on the fajita scale. There are severe storms that have higher winds then that.

The highest winds ever recorded on earth were 316 mph in Moore Oklahoma on May 3rd 1999. That caused tremendous damage. It's so weird because I although I didn't live there when it happened, I have lived in Norman for five years and Oklahoma my whole life, I drive through that area all of the time. I have played high school baseball games in Moore, etc. I don't really know how to explain it. It's just scary knowing that the most dangerous winds in the history of the world occurred right by my home......

I'm not sure how many tornadoes you get in Ohio but living in Oklahoma I have become kind of desensitized to it.

I hear you on the desensitized thing. This spring there were like 6 tornado warnings in a span of two weeks in my county...it's scary for sure, but after a while it kind of just gets fun.

We get pretty good coverage of the weather in Oklahoma. There are usually helicopters, spotters, etc, covering things. We get live video of what's going on. Usually tornadoes touch down in open fields. For a tornado to do significant damage here it would have to hit around Oklahoma City or Tulsa, like in 1999.

A tornado hit Picher, Oklahoma this year. It completely wiped out the town and they're not even going to rebuild it.

You get pretty used to it living in tornado alley. An earthquake would scare me a lot more.

Lucky for me I am outside of tornado country and aside from a tornado warning when I was like 8, we've never had anything like that.

Can't wait to move to BG though, that'll be fun

A couple of weeks ago where I live we were under a tornado warning every day for a week. It was just a crazy week of weather.

I don't live in tornado country either but we've had some warnings (or watch's?) lately. I was down the beach in the beginning of June and they said one touched down like 20 minutes away.

I always freak out during bad storms. Probably my biggest fear.

I was at the Brazenhead on Fifth sipping on some beers with a friend who was in town on business. We'd been on the patio all night and I go inside to get another beer, the bartenders had the radar channel on, I thought it was odd but didn't pay attention. I got back outside and about five minutes later the sirens went off.

It went from dry to monsoon in about .05 seconds and you could hear more sirens going off. The worst part was, my friend's hotel was all the way out at Easton. So we had to slam our beers, get in the car and drive east to beat the storm, then hole up in the hotel until it passed. By the time I got home I had to wake up in five hours for work.

The thing with Columbus is, there's always tornado watches and warnings from May until September and there hasn't been one touch down that's done any kind of damage. I know back in May they had one touchdown in Licking County but it was out in the country and touched down for maybe a second or two and that was it.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I used to live right in that area. I stayed in some townhomes right off Bethel rd.
