In your last paragraph, where you talk about the PD and murderer who kills himself. It is different I feel because the Police don't film the whole case and the arrest to be shown on National prime-time TV. If they did do that, I am sure someones family would sue eventually. Just like it happened here.

I just think that stuff doesn't need to be shown on TV. Arrest the bastards for sure! But it doesn't need to be televised on a news program.
I dont have a problem with them showing it personally, parents need to see how easy it is for sex offenders to get in touch with their kids unless the parents have developed a solid background during upbringing and keep as close an eye on them as can be expected.

Dateline didnt actually film what happened, they were on the scene recording what was going on but they were across the street basically giving a play by play of what was happening, not much different then a news broadcast that is on the scene of a hostage situation, so I dont think they did anything wrong.

What amazes me is the people who are repeat offenders, or even worse, have been caught by Dateline or Perverted Justice previously, it absolutly amazes me that they get caught with the same sting. The other thing to consider, and Ive heard some question how they can prove who contacted them over the CPU if they never show up to the house, well a lot of times these guys transmit not just pictures of their face but their genetalia as well. Like others have said, they have had guys show up with their kid, guys show up with strange things in their trunk like duct tape, a shovel and rope, these guys werent just there to rape the kid, they were there to make the kid vanish, and that has to get parents attention.

I live in Oregon City, and Im not sure if you guys remember the giant manhunt they had here for the 2 girls that vanished, but they were found burried in Ward Weavers backyard, and it is rumored that when he had a portable freezer in his living room during the investigation that he had the bodies in there the entire time before burying them. I bring this up because he reminds me exactly of these guys on television, Weaver was a normal guy on the outside but he started hanging around a couple underage minors and unfortunatly the parents didnt pay enough attention to it or put a stop to it and now look what happened. Parents need to wake up to the dangers out there and start taking a more active role in their kids lives, but until that happens it will be easy for these pedophiles to get their hands on minors.

I hate to dig this back up but with the marathon of TCAP on right now I dont see how anyone can feel sorry for these guys. Ive actually heard people say that these guys shouldnt be arrested if its their first offense, are you kidding me? A guy shows up and automatically strips his clothes off to meet a 14 year old boy and somehow because it might be his first offense we should let him go with a warning? I hope the guys here are smarter then some of the guys over at DSM as there are some special ones over there.
