    Recumbent or Stationary bike

Which would you go with for your cardio if given the choice and/or is one better than the other?

    Re: Recumbent or Stationary bike

I can't stand a regular exercise bike after using a recumbent... it just feels so uncomfortable and bugs my knees. The recumbent position just feels like way less strain and the seats are always more comfortable (which means you can actually do a marathon session without your *** falling asleep). No comparison comfort-wise... I'm not aware if one of the other actually burns more calories on average, but I wouldn't imagine that would be the case.

From what I've been told, you get more of a workout on the upright bike. I like it better as it does feel like you work more, you have to pull your leg back up. I've had knee surgeries and during rehab, they never put me on the recumbent bike, always on the upright even though they had both. I just don't feel right on the recumbent, it forces you into the leaning forward position that on a upright, you can lean forward or sit upright when you want too.

Yeah, that's true about lifting your leg -- probably would add something to the workout. I felt like I could go higher resistance on a recumbent though, which really felt like it worked my legs... the upright would start bugging my knees whenever I'd do higher resistance. I like getting that good burn going when I work out, and the resistance was the key to that, which is why I preferred the recumbent (in addition to the extra comfort).

Same, always a stationary bike at PT. The recumbent is tricky to get the right feel, the one my sister uses has a funky seat and puts your *** to sleep. Stationary bike would be my preference, more of a leg work out along with cardio
