    What things are non-taxable?

I just got employed at the great company of Wal Mart

We get a discount on everything but non-taxable items. I know this is mostly food, but is stuff like goldfish, chips, crackers, 12 pack soda ect ect taxed? I have never really noticed.

If you can remember way back when Wall-Marts were small and didn't sell most groceries.......... anything that would be sold in those Wall-Marts are eligible for discounts.

I'm 80% sure soda is, I would imagine crackers and goldfish might be as well...... I think they sold those in the old Wall-Marts.

Sometimes I wish I was still working for the Wall-Mart, those 10% discount on video games and such can be essential......... not to mention access to the Sam's Club.

It all depends on your state first. Usually though food is not taxed but some is at a lower rate, some meds or at a lower rate. Basically everything else is taxed at some amount.

I found out today that we get discouts on fruits and veggie too.

And did you know, you do not have to have an ad present to price match. You can just say I saw this for $20 at Target and the cashier has to take your word on it. It might have to get a managers approval so you don't try to buy a $300 item for $10. But the example it used was $20 down to $14

I don't know how you guys can get along with the fact that every state has its own rules. I live in a small country where every place has the same rules/regulations. It just makes more sense to me.

But your country is smaller than 47 of our 50 states.

Imagine if Israel, Afghanistan, Turkey, Russia, and India all had to agree on the same rules/regulations. That's why we have different laws.

Granted, most are relatively minor and are very similar in geographic terms (Northeast-high taxes, southeast-low taxes, California-commie bastards), so it's not like you're going to cross a state line and everything is different, it's just a few minor things.

I knew I'd get that answer. Anyway, still, you even have your state name on your license plate...
But it's all good, I'm just jealous, that's all.

Because each state issues their own drivers licenses and has different laws about driving.

It's the way the country was formed. Most countries have constitutions from the 20th century...America's constitution and formation as a modern state was in the 18th century. The idea behind the USA was a united group of indepedent states.

Yeah, I know all that. Anyway, do you guys think that sometime in the future some states will claim independence?

Ollie this should give you an idea of what is non-taxable..it's listed under Texas so that should work

Each state has it's own constitution so in some ways they already are independent.

As for being a recognized as a seperate country/party all together, states have attempted (American Civil War) and did not succeed for a number of reasons. I dont see this happening but anything is possible in the future (long ways down the road if anything)

We already tried that and they burnt our cities to the ground and took our rights away. Granted, they freed the slaves so there was a very good thing that came out of it, but it wouldn't be advisable for a state to declare independence.
