    Might have mono

Hey guys, was wondering if theres any of you out there that have had mono in the past and what the symptoms were like. I just got back from the university health center and tested weak positive for mono, they want me to come back later in the week and test again but they are prepping me as if I have it.

Starting yesterday I woke up with a sore throat and as the day wore on I got more tired and weaker. Last night I had fever and today the symptoms have been sore throat, tired, and fever. I'm really hoping its just a virus and I'll be ok, but I just wanted to know how the symptoms played out for you guys and if you think I'll get much worse from here if it is mono.

    Re: Might have mono

About 8 years ago I had a horrible sore throat, then got better. Then it came back worse and I went to the doc and they said I had mono.

For about a week I just watched movies and ate nothing but milkshakes and applesauce because it hurt to even talk. Then the next week I got a little better but still felt pretty crappy. Worst 2 weeks of my life. Oh ya and my girlfriend cheated on me so I got to think about that as I lay in bed all day. Pretty funny now that I think about it!

Then I finally got better and then proceeded to get sick every month for the next year or so until my immune system got back to normal. Have fun!

      Re: Might have mono

I had it when I was 17 and I just remember being miserable for a week. No appetite, high temperature, EXTREMELY tired, and nothing made me laugh except the Cosby show.

I only had Mono for a week but it literally took 6 months for my energy to return to normal. If I remember what the doctor said at the time I think everyone sooner or later gets mono but some people never realize it because it just doesn't have much of an effect on them, and then some people get it and they never return to normal.

So, Mono has a different effect on everyone; you might get worse and you might just get better. Who knows? Drink fluids and try to eat something even though you have no appetite.

Life is a sport, so play hard!

I had mono December '06 - January '07. Pretty miserable time. Had it during Christmas (though I didn't go to a doctor then), had it during New Year's, and finally got rid of it midway through January. Basically just watched TV all day, listened to the new MP3 player, and slept (lots of sleep). Looking back, I actually managed to do a decent amount of things despite feeling absolutely crappy.

But I quoted MattG's post because I wasn't sure if it was just me or if everyone else also got sick at least once a month thereafter. I got sick at least once for 6 months after (including getting tonsilitis in May of '07). Thought I was dying, haha. But it wenta way and I'm good to go nowadays.

i had it during my senior year of high school (back in 1990)...i won't go over all the symptoms (as noted above) but one i'll add is that i had pain in my neck and base of the back of my head. the problem was swollen glands, and they were painful.

hope you get to feeling better...

Wow. If that's the case then I've probably unknowingly had it before. A few times before I was extremely tired (way more than normal) for a wek or so with a sore throat but it acted more like a common cold except it took more out of me and lasted longer.

And to the op if you do have mono then get well soon!

Had it and for me it was the worst I've ever felt... bed for 2 weeks and swallowing was like swallowing fire. Lost about 15-20lbs after that great experience.

Dont let a whore of a friend take a swig of water during practice, that gets you mono lol..thats how I got it

                      Re: Might have mono

I had it my Freshman year in college. I had a bad sore throat that kept coming back for about a month and swollen glands. I wasn't really tired...just had the sore throat. I finally decided to go to the health center and they said they thought it might be mono, but it was odd that I wasn't tired. They were useless (and didn't bother with a blood test) so I drove home (2.5 hours) and went to my local Doctor. He took a blood test and said I had mono with a minor case of pneumonia. I spent the next 2 weeks resting and in bed. I lost 25lbs during that time as well. Went back to college after those 2 weeks and crammed to get by that semester...that was worse than the mono.
