    Internet Connectivity Issues/Question

Alright fellow OSers I need your help with my internet connectivity problems I've been having the past few days. Here's the scenario:

I share my internet with my neighbor (who isn't always home). We just got this provider a few days ago and share it between me, my girlfriend, and our neighbor. $$$'s been kind of tough to come by lately so that's we we're sharing. Anyway, even at full strength, I cannot connect to the internet. I can only connect once the modem and router are reset. If I shut off my laptop or turn off my xbox once I've connected the first time, if I immediately turn back on the xbox it won't connect...it seems likes its only a one time deal where it will connect me. Once I reset the router, it works again, but only until I shut off my laptop or turn off the xbox. Once I turn one of those back on, doesn't work anymore (even at full strength). The stuff is in my neighbors name and its at his house, so I can't constantly by unplugging the router, plus its a pain in the ***.

Any ideas whats going on here guys?

      1. Who is the provider?

      2. Is it a Home Network or is it just wireless internet?

      3. How is his internet connected? Wireless or Hard Wired?

If his connection is hard wired and its not a network but merely internet service then thats your problem. Every single time he gets online it sets the IP for that machine, when you go to get on the connection is setup for his device and without resetting the modem you wont be able to connect, I had this same problem back when I had internet and was constantly switching my cable between my PC and my 360 at the time. When I switched it I had to turn everything off, unplug the cable and plug it into the 360, turn the 360 on and then the modem to get a fresh signal to the modem and then it worked.

Now if its a network then Im not sure because it should connect everytime, have him setup a specific (static I believe is the term) for your device and that might help but other then that you may have to call the ISP and see whats going on.

Check the router support site for firmware updates.
