Where should I move to?

Hey I am trying to get as many suggestions as possible about where I should move to. I would appreciate some help from all the OS'ers.

The most important factors for me

1) I want inexpensive. I don't like suburbs, white picket fences and all that. I like places with a little life to them and obviously cheap. College towns are great.

2) Basketball. Place has got to have some lively gyms - courts. At least where I can get a few runs in each day.

3) Music. I don't get out as much as I used to but I still play blues/folk music from time to time. I have spent most of my adult life in seedy bars and blues clubs so I need a little bit of that.

Some cities I am interested in New Orleans, Memphis, somewhere in Georgia....

Any other college towns or hidden gems out there let me know.

Obviously Memphis or New Orleans would be a great choice for the music you're looking for.

If you love BBQ, Memphis is your place.

Crime sucks. One of the worst in the nation. Crummy local government. Not sure about prices for living but I know I'm looking to move into a one bedroom apartment in a pretty decent area for $600/mo. I'm sure you can find homes (assuming that's what you'd want) for fairly cheap in a decent area (like Cordova or Germantown or Bartlett). I know you said no suburbs but I wouldn't exactly call it white picket. Lets just say it's the safer parts of town.

Other than that, I enjoy it. Then again, I've lived here my whole life.

I hate it here but, (oh god the heat!!!) Phoenix; you can hoop it up all year, they supposedly have a burgoning music scene, and nobody has a picket fence 'cause then they couldnt park their cars in the yard.

Fills at least 2 of the factors you listed(not sure on the basketball one but from the times I've gone down there to visit family, I always get some good runs down there)

I know they got a couple bars down there, especially on the Riverfront, that do play blues and some folk music.

Great food, and when I mean great food...I mean GREAT food, especially the seafood.

The older I get, the more I think of these US small towns as what I need. 5 years ago I would think it's stupid but recently it's becoming more and more logical. What's going on?!
