    Bruised thigh/quad?

    Well about two weeks ago I was playing some pickup basketball at the gym. I was having a pretty solid game as our team sucked and I had to step it up, but the other team had some guy that I referred to as "the white KG" because he was tall, thin, older (bald), and could play inside and out. Anyway, I set up a pick and roll and he hedged and went knee to knee with me. Well, it was more like his knee to my quad, the one on the left side above my left knee. Pain!!! I proceeded to limp and run at around 50% for the rest of the game (which we lost) and went to sit down.

    My leg was soo tight but I was convinced to run another game on it, so I stretched it out a bit and tried to loosen it and ran another one at around 65%. Anyway, since then there's been very little progress. I played another game a couple days later with the pain and I was about 85% I felt. But now I don't feel any better. It got weird because it was all in a very small area of my quad but in a couple days it felt like my thigh was bruised. It's swollen up a little bit and I can only bend my leg at about 90 degrees.

    Anybody have any idea how to treat it? I can only feel pain when I bend it. I dont know if ice/heating pad will do anything for it or if I should just stay off of it.

    How is it treated?

    Right after your injury your health care provider may wrap your leg in a bent-knee position and place ice over your thigh. This will put a maximum stretch on the thigh muscles, keeping them from becoming too tight or stiff during healing.

    Other treatment may include:
    Putting ice packs on your thigh for 20 to 30 minutes every 3 to 4 hours for 2 or 3 days or until the pain goes away

    Lying down and elevating your thigh by putting a pillow under it

    Taking an anti-inflammatory medicine prescribed by your health care provider

    Wearing an elastic thigh wrap when you return to sports

    Having prescribed physical therapy, which would include rehabilitation

    Exercises and deep tissue treatments such as ultrasound or electrical stimulation.

    While you are recovering from your injury you will need to change your sport or activity to one that does not make your condition worse. For example, you may need to swim instead of run.
