Re: first time flying
There are about 30,000 part 121 (which is what your average person knows as commercial flying) flights in the US per day. There wasn't a single death in the US in Part 121 aviation last year, and there hasn't been a single one so far this year according to the NTSB website.
Is that any more reassuring?
EDIT: Just in case your curious, using those numbers. If there was a death the last flight of 2006 in the US, including today, that would be about 20,000,000 straight flights without a death.Last edited by Chaos81; 10-11-2008, 10:49 PM.Comment

Re: first time flying
so next weekend is my 1st time flying and im scared i never flew before and im scared of hieghts and i dont want the plane to crash bc once ur up there ur life is in the pilots hands and theres no escaping and if anything goes wrong ur pretty much dead and i dont want to burn up...i always see the news bout plane crashes but i have no choice so what should i expect when flying? any tips
Flying is not like a fear of spiders or a fear of closed in spaces or a fear of snakes. You're on a plane with a lot of other people, most of who are comfortable and relaxed. The chances of you getting injured on this flight are actually lower than that of driving in a car on the highway.
Grab a magazine, buckle up. There will be bumps but you'll make it. If you can, try to enjoy it, maybe get a window seat and get a good view.Comment

Re: first time flying
I don't know. He was on a different flight. He was with (what looked like) his daughter, 4 years old maybe.
He is big but not really THAT big. Without the uniform, he looked like the next person really, especially since his hair was 'poofy'.Gamertags

Sit in your seat and relax.
There's no point in getting worked up over something you have absolutely no control over.Comment

Re: first time flying
i love to fly ... although it's not as fun as it used to be thanks to all the hassle and cutbacks. i love it when i have to fly phoenix to tucson or indy to st. louis ... they barely get the drinks served before they are back on the ground. get a window seat, take the bumps in stride, and enjoy yourself.Individuality: Always remember that you are unique. Re: first time flying
The last time I flew was a 6 weeks ago: a 12-hour flight and then another 2.5-hour flight. But at least we had those little screens on the chair infront of us, so we could watch some movies, TV programs and listen to music etc.. It's not that bad and you have all those people around you so you know you're not alone. My Specs:
