Bowler Dies After Rolling Perfect Game

A Michigan bowler achieved his lifelong dream of rolling a perfect 300 game, then collapsed and died, a local television station reported Friday. Don Doane, 62, suffered an apparent heart attack minutes after his great triumph at the Ravenna Bowl in Ravenna, Mich., WZZM reported. His teammates said they believed the pressure of bowling 12 straight strikes was just too much for his heart.
Just moments before, he had been high-fiving teammates.
"Don just collapsed," bowling alley owner Jim Nutt told the television station. "At first we thought he had just fainted."
Doane had been a member of the Nutt Farm bowling team at Ravenna Bowl for 45 years.
"It was like a book, a final chapter," teammate Todd Place told WZZM. "He threw his 300 game with his of his friends, gave each other high-fives and it's like the story ended. He died with a smile on his face."

I wonder if he ever said to his buddies:

"if I ever bowl a 300, I'll drop dead afterwards"

Re: Bowler Die After Rolling Perfect Game

Reading this just reminds me that sometimes people really do mean that something is their dream.

It's crazy, but maybe he really couldn't believe that he finally did it and all of the emotion and stress overwhelmed him.
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

"You'll not find more penny-wise/pound-foolish behavior than in Major League Baseball." - Rob Neyer

Wow, at least his dream came true.

Bowling a perfect game reminds me of when Homer did it on the Simpsons. He became a local hero and appeared on "Springfield Squares" He began comparing himself to Jesus.

this is almost the same thing, except this guy is going to meet Jesus.

                            Nice thinking.

Hey, we should start our own crime-based detective show (made for television of course) that we could star in all while looking smooth, courting ladies, and bringing justice to all sorts of different people without breaking a sweat!
