    Ulcerative Colitis

    Does anyone have this disease?

I got diagnosed with it last December 21 -- ya, a great Christmas present.

In January, I went to Australia for school. I was supposed to be there until this December, followed by traveling to New Zealand, Fiji and the Cook Islands. However, last week I got a HUGE flare-up and had to come home early, leaving my girlfriend in Australia to finish the course -- which I'll have to make up here and possibly not graduate this year -- and obviously the trips had to be cancelled.

The disease is very hard to live with, especially because you're always going to the washroom, releasing blood and am constantly bloated with gas.

Although it went decently until recently (although I always have the symptoms, I didnt have the drastic pain), its just very difficult to live with.

Luckily I only have the disease in the last 30cm of my large intestine. Still, this does not mean that the pain or the risk of cancer as in those with the full disease, which sucks bad.

Has anyone lived with this? Any natural 'cures' you've tried? Ive heard of the SCD diet and how it's greatly changed people's lives, but it's VERY rigid and unforgiving, while I'll have to go through years without eating food cravings. Plus, every gastro Ive ever seen says it doesnt work. I dont know.

Since no one knows how this disease occurs, a cure cannot be discovered. Hopefully they will discover this soon, but I highly doubt it. Anyone in the field?

    Re: Ulcerative Colitis

A girl I work with has it. She seems to be dealing with it well. I know she said there are certain foods that give her flare-ups, especially spicy and greasy foods.
