I've heard before that normally 1 inch of rain equals 12 inches of snow.
So what's the weather like where you live?

OK something tells me the 7" measurement by the news is off. Even though it's been raining all day non stop (and pretty heavy), there's no way it would be anywhere near 70+ inches of snow (equivalency), otherwise there would be massive flooding.
Note: there's a flood warning, but cmon.
I just looked at the precipitation maps by you. There is a large area immediately to your west that has, in fact, received 5-7 inches of rain in the past 24 hours.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 08-11-2012, 12:30 AM.Comment

It rained over 10 inches here in about 16 hours earlier this summer. Certainly possible. Like I said, winter storms have less precipitation because the temperatures do not allow this kind of air saturation. This kind of storm in the winter would be the 1+ foot type of storm.

Originally posted by WNEMThe reason the Saginaw Bay area is getting a boost in rain today is lake effect. Just like in the winter the water is warmer than the air. As the cooler air moves over the water it picks up moisture which is dumped over land. This will end today as the wind will die down and change direction and the low pressure system moves off to the east.

For the part of the country having a drought, you can have our rain! All it does is rain here in Fl, every day, and I'm not even exaggerating. Can't think of the last time a week went by, and we had no rain.Comment
