So I went to my first Best Buy event

I went in not knowing what to expect from a Reward Zone members only 2hr shopping event. I must say I still dont know what the purpose of it was. I even asked a Best Buy employee what the purpose was and he said to save me money. My next question was save me money on what? He grabbed a flyer for me which had deals on a few things. 2 Sony TV's, a clothes washer and a GPS. Of course that had a stack of Wiis and a table with Wii Fit, Wii Play, Wii accessories all at there regular price. What was really nuts was they had open mic night and one girl was singing and playing guitar (pretty well) and people were flying all over the place with carts. Most carts were empty but a few people had a Wii or Wii fit in theirs. However everything was at its regular price. I guess I expected some kind of "special pricing" or discount. Sadly I left with nothing.

My girl and I were sitting around last nite and I thought about this and we went. WASTE OF TIME! Like you, I asked about all the exclusive deals. I was told about the Wii @ regular price, getting Hancock on blu-ray early@ regular price. Damn near everything was regular price. I told them, sans Hancock, I could come in today and get everything in the store @ the same price. The employee got Eli Manning-face.

You would think it would be come kind of discount even if it's %5-%10. I bet the main purpose though is to give you the first access on hot items. I haven't kept up but are WIIs still impossible to get?

I used to work for Best Buy, first as a shipper/receiver and then my position was changed into "merchandising" which essentially was a way to make us do ridiculously more work in significantly less time. Enough about that though, I remember when they implemented this event crap. At the morning meeting when the store manager outlined it, the sales associates were all confused as to what exactly the benefit of the event was, to which no real answer was given.

I'm sure nobody is surprised by Best Buy by now, the whole place is a huge racket. You try to buy anything major and the sales associates will try to take you for a ride with monster cables or usb cables, or even worse the ripoff extended warranties. I'll never forget the USB cables feating "gold plating" or whatever. In the system the cost price was something like $1.72 and they sold the things for $20. Okay, that's the end of my Best Buy rant.

It sounds like they were just trying to get people in the store through some kind of cheap promotional idea.

Stupid move on their behalf, especially if people left empty handed and upset like it sounds like in this thread.

LOL, Im very familiar with what your talking about as I worked there for a year and saw everything you mentioned. The PRP's are worth is as you get a replacement but the PSP, or service plan, can be a pain in the *** to get honored at times. Accessories are the biggest markup, I remember checking high end cables that were 90.00 and they were 30.00 for employees etc, they certainly want you to get those add-ons and its a high pressure enviorenment depending on the location you work at.
