    Anyone From the DC Area?

Just checkin' in, sayin what's up...

Got stationed in DC, will be here for 2 years. Just wondering if any of the OSers are from the area? I got no friends here, and have pretty much nothing to do not knowing the area. Especially for thankgiving.

If anyone is wondering, this is what I'm doing. 2nd hardest school in the Marine Corps for 4 months, to be able to do this.

    There's 3 of us.

If you would've moved here 2 weeks ago, you could have seen one of my world renowned Capital tours.

While my tours are no longer offered, I do have much respect for the USMC, so if you need anything just hollar.

I just detached from Henderson Hall a week ago.

Good luck with the Drill Team. The notoriety is nice but the trade off is sweating your balls off on Tuesday and Friday nights during those humid D.C. nights at the Barracks and the Iwo Jima Memorial for two hours at a time.

welcome to the nation's capital, if you haven't before, check out all the sights dc has to offer. it always rings true, most people who live around here take for granted the fact that we can just hop in the car/bus/metro and check that stuff out basically whenever we want to. inevitably whenever i have family in town we take them to the museums, the monuments, etc and i always think to myself "man, this is a pretty neat town, i need to do this more often." and of course when the relatives leave i don't check that stuff out for years until more relatives come for a visit and want to see the city. enjoy your time here man, and good luck with the service. my grandfather is a retired marine, was a member of merril's marauders (sp?) if you've heard of them...

Seriously. Up until the last few months, I didn't even think of DC as a tourist city.

Then I realized that most of the tourists were a level below hndavis on the evolutionary track.

          *True story*

Them: "Have you seen National Treasure 2? That's the main reason we came up to visit! Are there any neat secrets?!"

          Me: "..."

          "..."

          "..."

          "That's very funny."

Them: "Really, we're going to go check out the national archives for clues!"

          Me: "..."

I was half expecting the Marines to just start break dancing.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

                    Welcome.

Here's some tips for riding the Metro.

If you're gonna ride the esclator stand to the right. The left side is for movers & shakers.

This will help you avoid a lot of dirty looks.

And have your damn metro card in your hand when you get to the electronic turnstile things.

And under no condition should you give money to the homeless.

And do not try to walk onto the metro car before letting people get off. If you try to get on the car before I get off I will truck ala Brandon Jacobs and Laron Landry.
