I'd argue that this happened 40 years ago, but because of no internet or widespread news no one heard about it....

Re: WTF is wrong with your generation?
I mean 50 years ago you wouldn't see teens video taping themselves beating the snot out of another teen and showing everyone the way those teens in I think, Florida did a year or so ago. I also read some blog stuff after Jays owner Ted Rogers died. Let me tell you, there were people who were cussing him out and saying he should die again for all they care and the man hadn't been dead for more then 12 hours!
The 1950s were the ****. That was when people really knew how to act properly.Comment

Re: WTF is wrong with your generation?
The sarcasm is just dripping with that post eh?
I never said the internet was the sole cause of this so let's not put words into my mouth. As to your examples, you're right they're far more egregious but they were the results of social and institutional ignorance. What's happening today is borne out of chaos. What's happening today is not just ignorance but in a lot of cases plain stupidity, lack of a proper upbringing and a degradation of morals in the overall scheme of things.Comment

Man you people are hitting me over the head. First of all Cebby. 3 of the 4 pictures you posted are more societal then the actions of rogue behavior. China and the Soviet Union never had a history of democracy up to that point and one can argue that both nations are still not quite democratic today. I addressed the racism aspect as a form of structured societal ignorance.
Brandon the chart doesn't surprise me all that much. There's the flip side to the argument which i've heard from many in that the reporting of violent crime is down but not necessarily because violent crime is disappearing. Oftentimes violent crimes and such won't be reported for various and sundry reasons. So while the chart is very encouraging it can be misleading.
Also i'd like to see the crime rates for the 10 biggest US Cities over the last decade or so. I bet the crime rate hasn't fallen that much in those cities.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

As for the crime rates in the ten largest U.S. cities over the past decade, well, I can't find a simple chart for that.Comment

Re: WTF is wrong with your generation?
It's kinda funny how this has made it to the news, but this is absolutely nothing new. It's not just our generation either. As Timmay said, this has been happening forever. My mom is/was a CNA working in "Assisted Living facilities" and she witnessed this all the time. This is part of the reason she's been fired about 4 times in the last 6 months because she can't tolerate this happening. She usually tries to bring it up to administration how poorly the residents are treated but they don't seem to really care at all. Everyone just goes about their business on a don't ask don't tell policy.[NYK|DAL|VT]

Re: WTF is wrong with your generation?
There are many reasons why someone wouldn't report a violent crime. The fear of reprisals, lack of confidence in the police, etc etc. I couldn't find anything but I did find something that seems to negate some of your rosy view of the crime rate in regards to violent crime.

Re: WTF is wrong with your generation?
Why would the reporting of violent crime be less prevalent now than it was in 1988? What has changed that has made people less likely to report violent crime now as opposed to then? If there's something to back this up I'd like to see it.

But anyone who is in law enforcement knows the truth. Those numbers are BOGUS.
Here is the deal....and it's this way in most of the larger police forces in the nation(and they are going to greatly influence those numbers).....in New York City it's called COMPSTAT and it tracks the crime numbers.
Let's say you are a Lt. or Capt........if your COMPSTAT numbers DO NOT reflect a drop in crimes....especially in certain areas(of crimes not geographical)....your *** is GONE.
So, you have your guys find a way to change the way those crimes are classified....YES even MURDERS!(they may have changed things, I'm going back quite a few years).
I had to attend a few CPOP meetings(community board meetings) where the sarge would be throwing out statistics.....and they were ALL B.S.
What I'm trying to say is.....don't believe everything you read......everyone wants it to look rosier than it really is.

Justice Department spokesman Brian Roehrkasse cast the report as good news in the effort to combat gangs, guns and violence, pointing out that the rate of crimes per 100,000 people had declined to its lowest level in 30 years.Comment

Brandon...you have no way of knowing...so it's not your fault, and you can only go by what is reported.

Re: WTF is wrong with your generation?
Anyone that thinks people are more polite and respectful today than 50 years ago is out of their mind... People could not be more rude, impersonal and all about 'me' than they are in this generation.
Also... kids are cheating and stealing more... and that's up from just the last two years.

There's a book called Way Of Duty that's about a woman's diary written during the American Revolution talking about how kids during that time didn't listen to their parents and stopped going to church.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment
