I mean, it's pretty much understood when you go out to a court you know what's gonna happen... but I don't get how so many people don't understand basic sportsmanship.
It seems like it's the garbage players that do it the most. The worst are the ones that looked like they mighta played football in high school (but not basketball), play defense by flexing their arms and holding them out to the sides and hooking you if you try to get past them, have no jumper, no court vision, and their handles consist of bouncing the ball, bumping into you, then recovering the ball. They also get upset real easily, and with their experience in football, know all the little tricks to bruise you by any means necessary. If you call a foul, get ready to debate it for a while, and if you block their shot, get ready to debate that too.
That's not fun to me. I'm a pretty relaxed person, but I usually leave the courts all stressed out.
I've been putting ball together at my church the past few years whenever I'm home and invite about 20 or so of my buddies and we run a lot of good games. That and intramurals up here at UF are the most fun for me. Last year we had a four team summer league at the church that got pretty competitive, we had refs, two games a week, stats and a website with game highlights. Our team ended up winning the "title". Definitely not the highest level of basketball out there, even though there were a few college players (some of my old HS teammates) but it was a lot of fun.

I call them "The Nothings" because they're pretty much useless on the court and can't really do nothing. Can't rely on them for any Offensive Production, help on D, nothing.I mean, it's pretty much understood when you go out to a court you know what's gonna happen... but I don't get how so many people don't understand basic sportsmanship.

And when you have more than 2 playing, the game is no longer fun and worth playing.#RespectTheCultureComment

Re: OS Hoopers....What are your balling tips?
Okay, lets say a guy goes up for a dunk but another person goes up with him, with the intention to foul him because he does not want to give up an easy bucket. Is that reason enough to get into a fight about, because the guy did not let you dunk.
And he held him all the way down so he would not get hurt. I just do not think that is any reason to get in a fight over.Comment

No reason. But on the streets many people will get heated about that since it just friendly game of basketball.Okay, lets say a guy goes up for a dunk but another person goes up with him, with the intention to foul him because he does not want to give up an easy bucket. At the park I play every summer it gets bad sometimes. In a 5 on 5 we were running, one of the guys pushed one guy straight into the basketball pole. You could literally hear teeth and metal connecting. This was because on the earlier play he fouled him on a dunk as you say.
I always play hard, and never give up on defense. But when playing at the park, if someone is going for the dunk, I'm not going to jump into and take the risk of one of us getting injured. In more serious competition, than yeah you try to stop the easy bucket without causing harm.Comment

Yea but like my friend got him just as he was going up. He wasn't in mid flight. I am sure in mid flight he may have just pulled back, but the guy was just going up and it was 1 on 1. Lol it happened about a year ago, but we still talk about how mad that guy got. Even his teammates we telling him to chill the **** out.No reason. Oh, well yeah, if you're going in the lane and going up, it's fair game. If you don't want contact, don't go inside. However, if you're already in mid air it is best to probably back of unless you can get the block.Yea but like my friend got him just as he was going up. He wasn't in mid flight. Re: OS Hoopers....What are your balling tips?
I usually just play with people that can't dunk, solves that problem.
Unfortunately I'm 6'6 and can't dunk myself thanks to messing up my knees playing basketball. That's the one goal I really have in life though is to somehow one day be able to dunk with ease. Might take a while though since doing squats and other leg workouts are WAY to painful to do regularly or well enough to get results.Fan of....

Re: OS Hoopers....What are your balling tips?
I know someone on here mentioned they were in a slump after having played a whole lot lately, and my advice for you is to take about 2-3 days and rest. I found that when I played everyday for more than a couple of weeks my shots would stop falling (I'm 6'5 and used to have a nasty 15-20 jumper.) I tried to shoot myself out of these slumps, but I might go 3-15 and not be able to make free throws (I'm a good free throw shooter). I decided I needed a break after about a week of this poor shooting and a couple of days later I came back to the gym and lit it up. From then on whenever I found myself in a slump, I would take some time off and recharge the batteries.
PASS THE BALL TO THE WIDE OPEN MAN! It drives me nuts when my PG in a 5v5 game tries to break down the entire defense.Comment

Re: OS Hoopers....What are your balling tips?
Not just the player who turned the ball over.
But the other players on the team as well.
So many times somebody else will turn the ball over on my squad, then I'm the only one who hustles back left to take on 3 or 4 other guys on the break. It's only when I cause a miss that maybe one of the other guys start to run back to help.
Frustrating as hell.
O... and this goes for when a player misses a shot too. It's annoying as hell when a guy will go up for a lay up or something, miss, then stand there looking up at the rim like it's the rims fault that they missed.
Get back on D!Comment

^^ It's great when ppl get their feelings hurt when you dunk on them - they think you're trying to punk them or do something dirty. ********."You make your name in the regular season, and your fame in the postseason." - Clyde Frazier
