Thugs in Mexico going after schools

Due to the Mexican government's crackdown on drug related crime, cartels have started targeting schools in efforts to supplement lost income. the plan: teachers must fork over their bonuses or children will be kidnapped.

Since mid-November there have been several signs posted at Cuidad Juarez schools which describe the demands and threats, but as yet none provide information as to how the monies are to be transferred to the extortionists.

Several schools were closed for a while but classes have recently resumed without incident. The threats have not been determined to be real or the work of pranksters, but caution was used to protect the children of this 1.5 million population city.
