    Swollen Knee

Our 13 yr old was at hoops practice last night and he came home with an ice bag and hobbling on one foot.

He collided with another person and developed a bump on the side of the knee.

We iced it last night and elevated it and he took an Ibuprofen before bed.

He did say it felt better this morning , but the swelling was still there. He said if he couldn't hobble downstairs, he wouldn't go to school.

    He did go to school.

Anyone ever have this? When he comes home, will we continue to ice it. I'm hoping with elevation and the icing will reduce the swelling.

Any ideas on how long it will take to heal? If the swelling doesn't go down in 48 hrs, I'm sure we will take him to the doctors.

You're doing the right thing, he should be fine.

      Ice, ice baby!

He'll be 100% in a day or two.

Yeah, just ice it and make him relax at home for a few days and it should start getting better. If it doesn't (or it gets worse), after week or so I'd see a doctor.

          Thanks everyone.

His still has a slight gimp, the area is bruising currently.

I'm sure he will be running in a few days. We kept him out of the game today and his next game isn't till Jan 10th. He should be go to go by then.

Ice and sometimes heat help for the pain. If not go to a Dr. it can't hurt.

              Rest
              Ice
              Compression
              Elevation

usually works for bruises and sprains.

I had one of those badboys in the practise before a playoff game.

                It sucks.
