    Rather than trying to be selfish by being mean, be selfish by trying to advance yourself.

    Perhaps you feel that you're too much of a yes man or that you let people walk over you because you're too nice and you feel that being selfish will stop that from happening. Really, being selfish (at least in the definition you've presented) is going to make you even more unhappy.

    Your true New Year's Resolution should be to evaluate every decision you make and choose the one that benefits you the most. It's your life and just because you look out for yourself doesn't mean you're crapping on other people. But, if you want control of your own life then you need to start putting yourself first. You don't have to be mean selfish prick to achieve that.


    My New Year's Resolution is to stop being an ******* at times here on OS.

        Maybe you should find a new circle of friends that make you confident in who you are as a person... that way you don't have to change everything else.

        And you know what all of those successful people have that you don't? It's not selfishness, we all have that.

        It's self confidence.

        Find that, and you'll never need anything else.
