    Breaking News - Marijuana Legalized

    At least in New Mexico.

It's about time they allow it to be used "legally" for medical conditions. I am a firm believer that it eases the suffering for the sick.

I still don't get why they don't just legalize and tax it.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Medical marijuana being legalized in a single state is hardly breaking news.

It is decriminalized but I signed a bunch of papers saying that I wouldn't do it. Above the influence man.

Glad to see instead of taxing this product we spend taxes in an attempt to prevent users from using. Which has been an epic failure.

              Money.

This may be just pure speculation, but I was once told that Beer and Cigarette companies are paying big bucks to keep it illegal.

It makes sense if true. If it is legalized, then both industries will lose tremendous profit. IMO

Re: Breaking News - Marijuana Legalized

Uhh, kind of a misleading topic title, since it's just medical and it still requires jumping through a bunch of hoops.

Good step though, but we should be beyond this sort of thing at this point in history... every example of prohibition throughout history has yeilded crime, corruption, death, and fiscal waste. The War on Drugs is the biggest policy failure and waste of taxpayer funds in US history, and we're still hemmoraging money and sending low-level criminals and users to jail every day. Feed the prison-industrial beast at all costs, apparently. Makes me sick.

And it's not beer/cigarette companies, but pharmaceutical companies that are the biggest obstacle to legalizing drugs, especially weed. If you didn't have to pay $200 per pill for AIDS and Cancer medication and could instead grow your own medicine, these a-holes wouldn't be rolling in profits like they are. That, and the social conservatives that feel the need to lord over everyone else's behavior instead of just practicing what they preach... those are the two groups preventing this from happening in the US.

Most of the Wester european countries have realized that drug use is a medical problem, not a criminal one... but we're still lagging behind on that realization. Even if it's never "legalized", putting users and small-scale dealers in jails for drug use (any drug!) has to stop. Weed isn't actually legal in The Netherlands either, it's just tolerated by the authorities and they came up with a sensible system of regulation that hasn't led to an increase of drug use dating back to the 1970's when the policy was first put into place. Use of marijuana and other drugs has actually declined in The Netherlands over that period, and they spend a tiny fraction of what we do per capita on law enforcement.

Misleading title.... and legalizing and taxing marijuana will do nothing but cause problems. And don't give me the alcohol argument. That only supports my argument. This would not be good.

Locking this. Discussing drugs, especially the political aspect of it, is against the TOS.
