My newest pet peeve- I have to vent on this a bit

What the F is up with people driving their cars with hoods on??
Some douche pulled right in front of me, and I almost hit him. I look over, and he's got his friggen hood on while typing a message on his phone.

I know when I have my hood on "outside" peripheral vision is pretty much shot- so whats with this new fad?? I see it alot lately.

I'm definitely guilty of this, I tend to do it alot. Matter of fact a couple of weeks ago I had on a hoody and some shutter shades while driving.

I also hate when people wear shorts that go all the way down to their ankles, then they have high socks on, that covers up the rest of their skin.

I don't normally do most of what you guys are talking about, I may have been guilty of driving with my hood on once of twice, but really, why do you guys care?

Yeah, I've driven with my hood on a few times. I usually pull it down once the heat warms up a bit in the car, though.

Because it cuts off the other drivers range of peripheral vision, making it unsafe for other drivers on the road...seems pretty self-explanatory.

Just means the driver has to turn his head a little more to see, or actually learn how to use his side mirrors.

I drive with my hood up a bit, actually, now that I think about it. Luckily my neck works so I can turn my head to look around and I still know how to look in my mirrors to see around my car.

You can say its only a matter of turning one's head all you like, but from what I've seen of people's driving ability (or ability to turn your head as you so eloquently put it) I'd rather have that person not have one more obstacle to being a safe driver.

Driving around downtown Chicago or in Manhattan you have to have your head on a swivel at all times...cars and peds are seemingly everywhere and usually have no regard for you.

I dont need to get into an accident because some douchebag couldnt see me try to pass him because his hood obscured his vision.

You are aware that mirrors have blind spots, right? Obviously you can look around but if your peripheral vision is blocked it reduces your chances of seeing something that you didn't expect to be there.

That's why I added in the "turn your head" part. People, even without hoods up, can't see everything out of their peripheral vision/mirrors and still have to turn their head.

I guess I would just rather worry about people on their cell phones, people who don't pay attention, etc. when driving instead of people who have their hoods up.
