Would you say that because the amount of competition that is at the higher-paid sports that it requires a higher level of athleticism than another sport that would be considered an athlete's sport, but has less competition (say Basketball vs Decathlon)?

If a sport has contact/defense, it requires more athleticism than an event like track or obstacle courses. Just run the event in your head, but add Shaq or Polamalu body checking the athlete during the course/race.

I'd agree. I think lesser athletes play lesser sports because of the popularity/money.

It's definately a toss-up between fball and bball players but if I had to pick the most athletic position in any sport I would say Cornerback over WR. I think it is much harder physically to chase a guy than it is to run routes. Catching the ball while being hit isn't a testament to athelticism, it's skill.

I don't think that corners or WRs are the most athletic. I'd go with linebackers, safeties, or running backs. And yes, it's a case by case basis, so don't point out Lendale White or some fat linebacker and a great athlete in another sport.

Overall, I'd say the 2-3 spot in the NBA is probably the most athletic position all the way around.

Agreed. Something like lacrosse is made up of primarily upper class northern white kids. Swimming is almost exclusively upper class white kids. I have little doubt that if someone abducted a group of kids from Miami, New Orleans, and LA and raised them to be lacrosse players they would dominate. But as it is, the best athletes in the world are playing football and basketball, so those require the best athletes to compete. If they were playing Lacrosse, water polo, or volleyball, those sports would need the best athletes.

And sadly enough, those are the guys with the least amount of skill in the NBA today.
