    Ice Storm.

Is anyone else still suffering from the ice storm across much of the mid-west? My town (Paducah, KY) was just on NBC a little while ago. And of course they had some hillbilly on there making us all look good. But I am still without power and have been since Tuesday of last week. My wife and my 9 month old son are kept up at my mother's house. I am reliving my glory days of high school. Playing video games all night in her basement. Only this time I am not a student enjoying "snow days", I am a teacher. Ha.

That sucks man. I heard that somewhere in Kentucky didn't have running water after the ice storm. That is rough.

We've had running water. Just no power. I think the death toll is up to 24 across all the states affected. Crazy for an ice storm. I tornado or earthquake I can understand, but an ice storm? It literally looks like a tornado came though my town (minus the houses being damaged). Trees and debris are everywhere. Large trees were split from the weight of the ice. Telephone polls are down, etc. I don't expect we will have power at my house for another 5 days. We are supposed to go back to school on Wednesday, but we will see.

we had one of those ice storms in the middle of December. The wifey and I were without power and water for 13 days. Just a wood stove to keep the pipes from freezing. Generators were sold out of every Home Depot.

My parents live in Louisville and they just got their power restored yesterday. They were without power for about 5 days.

Is this all because it was really that bad or is it because they just weren't ready for it?

Ice storms are typically the worst because the ice encompasses EVERYTHING and weighs down all the power lines to where they simply break.

I was just wondering the same thing, or is it that the service workers are woefully inept at fixing this type of problem. In New England we got hit with a massive ice storm in 1998, but other than backwoods Maine the problems were fixed fairly quickly. Last year in Western Mass a bad ice storm hit and knocked out power to a lot of hill towns (it somehow completely missed Greenfield) for a while, up to a week.

When I dig up the pictures, Ill post some from my street. I live in central massachusetts. There were 15 telephone poles down on my street with wires everywhere. Thats just to give you an idea. My street has about 150 houses. It took 5 days just to clear debris before they even started to restore power.
