Had a Delirium Tremens tonight. A very good Belgium Ale.

Had a Peroni this past weekend at "Franco's" and Italian restaurant in Norfolk.

              Good beer.

Leinenkugel's Creamy Dark is not bad for a darker beer. Fairly easy to drink, not too bitter. I'd definitely go with it again for a dark beer fix.

Also tried some Miller Chill. Pretty much tastes like Corona with a lime.

Fluffhead, my friend and I checked out Super Liquors... we'll definitely be heading there again in the future. Good selection. That's for the heads-up about them.

I had these two last night.

                  Delirium Nocturnum

Really enjoyed it. Has a somewhat sweet after taste but not over powering.

9,000-year-old brew hitting the shelves this summer

This summer, how would you like to lean back in your lawn chair and toss back a brew made from what may be the world’s oldest recipe for beer? Called Chateau Jiahu, this blend of rice, honey and fruit was intoxicating Chinese villagers 9,000 years ago—long before grape wine had its start in Mesopotamia. University of Pennsylvania molecular archaeologist Patrick McGovern first described the beverage in 2005 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences based on chemical traces from pottery in the Neolithic village of Jiahu in Northern China. Soon after, McGovern called on Sam Calagione at the Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Milton, Del., to do the ancient recipe justice. Later this month, you can give it a try when a new batch hits shelves across the country. The Beer Babe blog was impressed, writing that it is “very smooth,” and “not overly sweet.” But that’s not the only strange brew Dogfish is shipping out this summer. Next week, the brewery will be bottling up the first large batch of Sah’tea for the general public—a modern update on a ninth-century Finnish beverage. In the fall, The New Yorker documented the intricate research and preparation that went into making the beer, which was first offered on tap at the brewery in May. In short, brewmasters carmelize wort on white hot river rocks, ferment it with German Weizen yeast, then toss on Finnish berries and a blend of spices to jazz up this rye-based beverage. Reviewers at the BeerAdvocate universally praised Sah'tea, comparing it to a fruity hefeweizen. One user munched on calamari as he downed a pint and described the combo as “a near euphoric experience."

                      Awesome.

Also, I had the Ommegang Three Philosophers yesterday and it was great. 98% Quadruppel Belgian Ale and 2% Cherry Lambic... nice blend for sure. And 9.8% ABV always helps -- polishing off that big bastard was all I needed for the night.

I thought about trying that, but I really don't like Cherry Lambic, can you really taste it?

It was very light (as the 2% would suggest). Honestly, the strong taste of the quadruppel pretty much overwhelmed it. You could taste it a tiny bit in the aftertaste combined with the alcohol twang, but it basically worked to cut that extra bite out of the high ABV. And it was more of a bitter dark cherry kind of taste, not sweet at all like some lambics are.

I really liked it and I wish I could afford to drink beer like that all the time... nothing better than drinking one of those giant bottles full of great beer.

I had a Peroni at an Italian restaurant with my lunch today and it was comparable to drinking a glass of water with a touch of amber food coloring. Bland taste, extremely light in color and no kick whatsoever. Big D- from me. I'd rather drink an American light beer than that again. I guess all these IPAs I've been drinking lately have made my taste buds too sophisticated. Oh well!

I like Moretti better (especially La Rossa). But yeah, you won't find a hoppy kick comparable to IPAs from Italian beers at all.

Got a 12-pack of Honey Moon for $10.99, so that's what I've been sipping on aside from that Ommegang on Saturday.

Had the Yeungling Black & Tan this past weekend.

A: Dark brown, with a fairly weak head & very little lacing

S: Some malts, hints of smoke and perhaps faint coffee and as it warms caramel. Pleasant, but on the subdued side.

T: I was really disappointed with the flavor. It was, in a word, watery. There would be the occasional hint of roasted malt and/or toffee, but water and weak imo.

M: The mouth feel, on the other hand, was quite good. Crisp and light, with medium carbonation, it struck a nice balance and was slightly creamy.

D: It's certainly very sessionable, with a low ABV and a really nice mouth feel, but the flavor is just so weak that it's difficult for me to really recommend it. outa 5
