Re: Another Great Tasting Beer Thread

Went on a quality beer run yesterday, here are the spoils:

    Uinta Monkshine Belgian Pale 6-pack
    Bear Republic Black Stout
Ska Nefarious Ten Pin Imperial Porter
Grand Teton Lost Continent Douple IPA 4-pack

...I think that's it. I was SO tempted to try the Dogfish Head Chataeu Jihau just to try it, but the pricetag was a little much for me at the moment with the other stuff I was buying. At least they have it at my shop though, so I should be able to go grab one soon.

I had this last night. Bought a pint of it at Bloom. It was a refresh order of taste, tasted bad going in, but had a very nice aftertaste.

Just bought a 6-pack of Sarnac Pumpkin Ale. I never had it before so I hope it's good.

Any suggestions for some good Pumpkin beers as well as Octoberfests?

Schlafly Pumpkin and Octoberfest, Sam Adams Octoberfest as well as pumpkin (only comes as part of Harvest Collection), Buffalo Bills Pumpkin, and Dogfish Head Punkin. Can't go wrong with any of these. Schlafly Pumpkin is my favorite but you'll only find that at liquor stores that sell beer because it's 8%

            I'm a big fan of Paulaner's Oktoberfest-Marzen.

If you have a Trader Joe's near you, they have mini kegs of it for 10 bucks.

Southern Tier Pumking IS the King of all American pumpkin ales imo.

I'd suggest Saranac Oktoberfest. tastes great too. The pumking has a high ABV
9% tastes like pumpkin pie...DAMN...mouth waterin' just talkin about it lol

the Sarnac Pumkin Ale is good stuff. I also had the Southern Tier Pumpking on draft last week, but I haven't been able to find the bottles yet.

Thanks for the suggestions, I am going to have to try them out.

I really enjoyed the Grand Teton Lost Continent IPA -- it's super grapefruity, both smell and taste. It had a little stickyness to it that I didn't love (tad on the syrupy side, like many DIPAs), but a damn solid choice for $6.99/4-pack, which is what I found it for. The Ska Nefarious Ten Pin Imperial Porter was solid too, the smoke qualities weren't overwhelming and it was smooth like most porters despite being 8%... didn't really notice the extra alcohol.

The Monkshine is solid, a good session type beer. It lacks a little character for my tastes -- I guess I'm just always craving hops or total freshness/clean taste in the pilsner vein, and it was somewhere in-between.

So I had a dream about a beer that tastes like chocolate. Like truly a thick whipped chocolate. I don't even like chocolate but it was delicious in my dream.

.....any beers like that out there?

I tried a bottle of chocolate beer once and I thought it was awful.

Tastes like Chocolate w/ some coffee undertones. GREAT STUFF!

                          How 'bout this:
The lid describes it as “Cream Stout Ice Cream Swirled with Chocolate Ice Cream.” The beer taste is actually quite subtle—sweet and creamy; the flavor is mostly in the aftertaste. Once you dig down into the chocolate ice cream swirl, though, the chocolate flavor almost completely overpowers the stout. Not bad."

Rogue makes a regular and a Double Chocolate Stout, you can definitely get that there. The regular seems like the pick of the two according to BeerAdvocate: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/132/1118

Lots of the coffee-flavored porters and stouts end up tasting like dark chocolate. Blend a milk stout with one of those and you're probably in that territory ha. Sheeeeit, I might do that soon -- they were doing all kinds of impromptu blends at GABF this year that I'm sad I missed out on.

I tried that Young's Double Chocolate stout and did not enjoy it. I also LOVE dark heavy stouts, but something about the chocolate flavor did not sit well with me
