Are you a single malt Scotch fan? They're a little more pricey, but worth it IMO.

If you like a peaty/smoky Scotch, Laphroaig is good for the price. Talisker is another one, but it's milder.

If not, the traditional go-tos are Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, and Macallan.

I bought a friend of Jameson Black Barrel for his birthday, and that stuff was amazing.

Never really tried scotch at all...I'll have to try some before buying a bottle, but worth a shot. I've tended to just have North American type whiskeys except for shots of Jameson or Bushmills...

You're in a big enough area that there's probably a bar there with a good selection and a bartender who can help you try different kinds. Or maybe one of your friends - that's how I learned more about them. Definitely a good idea to do that before you blindly buy a bottle.

Yeah, we just don't drink a ton or go out...but enjoy it at home and want to start having a glass here and there at home at night. Not getting drunk, more just relaxing

I'll look around, maybe get something safer that I know I like now and then try some new stuff over time.

              Major bump.

With helpful apps like Untapped and TapHunter there's no excuse for this lack of activity.

I've only recently begun to develop a broader taste spectrum. I've always been a Stout and Porter type of guy, but I'm starting to venture out.

On our honeymoon we stopped at Sierra Nevada's North Carolina location ( it is beautiful and heavenly) and had some really good (and strong) IPAs. I also managed to find Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout which became an instant favorite.

There is a bottle shop next to the office that is literally right around the corner. I walked up there this morning since they were doing the Founders CBS release. I also picked up a bottle of the Funky Buddha's Wide Awake It's Morning.

I want to try the kbs. Liquor store around here is selling it for 29.99 a bottle. One per customer. Glad that you woke up the forum

Unless you really know what you're getting into, I wouldn't start with Laphroig. I happen to like it, but it's on the extreme end of peat-iness. The very first time I tried it, I didn't know what to expect....it's like drinking a burning building. "Smokey" doesn't really do it justice...

Honestly, for an everyday sipper, hard to beat these. There are various levels of each, but a very middle-of-the-road 12-year Glenlivet is a perfectly fine unwinder at day's end.

Yeah, that's why I mentioned Talisker, but I probably should have been more clear about that.

                    Love me some Laphroig.

Yeah, they limited me to one bottle which is why I bought the Funky Buddha.

They're supposed to do another bottle release at 5PM, but I wouldn't be surprised if they had some leftover because they had a bunch this morning when I left.

Nice. Are you waiting to crack It open for the weekend?

The CBS is delicious. Very smooth, but has a decent bite. The Funky Buddha, however, was the better of the two.

I'm far from a whisk(e)y connoisseur, but last month I was in the Orkney Islands north of Scotland (I have family roots there), and I couldn't resist paying a visit to Highland Park. No regrets!
