    Buying a tennis racket

I've been playing a fair bit of tennis in recent months and think it's time to upgrade my old (i'm talkng from the 80's old) busted *** tennis racket.

Does anyone have any tips as to what brand etc is the best to buy, what to look out for and would it be better to buy it locally or somewhere on the net?

I'm thinking of spending between $70-$280 US on it depending on what is the best value for money.

I recommend finding somewhere you can rent and try them...My tennis center has a pro shop where I could pay to rent, and if I bought the cash for the rental went towards the racquet. I ended up playing better with a Babolat racquet, the Roddick one but not his exact, the more common one. The tennis pros were also able to recommend the type for me, since I'm athletic, how much speed/power I play with, etc.

I had just basically started playing in January a year ago, and by April I was playing enough (3 times a week) to warrant a good racquet. Great decision, I love mine.

Definitely agree with mgoblue, go to wherever your going to be playing tennis and ask the pro.

Really? I didn't even know that would be an option, i wonder if the tennis clubs over here would do that.

After looking at that link RAZR provided (thanks man) i basically need an oversized raquet as big as i can find (i'm still a beginner/intermediate) because i need all the help i can get.

Thanks for the advice so far guys....

Yeah...I don't know if you really need really oversized though, a lot of those are meant for old people who don't get much swing speed. Don't sell yourself too short. That's where it's nice to talk to people who have a clue, as well as trying them out.

If not, it's not a completely big deal, you'd be fine with any decent racquet, just a matter of finding one you like best if you can. You just want something you can grow into as well.

Definitely do not get an oversized head. Get used to a midsize and it'll make you a much better player because you'll be able to generate your own power and give you more control.

I'm a fan of Wilson racquets. I have the nBlade. I didn't see the nCode nBlade on that Tennis Warehouse site, so I'm not sure they make them anymore but it's a great racquet.

I'd go with mgo's suggestion and just try racquets out at your club and make a decision from there.

I'm just a casual player. I needed to upgrade mine as well a couple of months ago. I went with the Babolat NS Tour. I like it a lot. Since I don't get out and play tourneys or anything, it's fine for me.

Just go out with friends to play. It seems to be a great racket for me.
