Re: I buy so much crap i dont "need"
Depends on how you want to view it. I don't think I buy much I don't need. I only buy video games I know I'll play a lot (I purchase about 5-7 video games all year). I do buy beer, but only drink at times during the weekends. Other than that, there isn't much
On the other hand, did I really need to buy a 37" HDTV for the bedroom? No. Did I really need to buy a $55,000 Lexus? No. However, neither of these things have caused me to not save/invest money each month and actually were able to be purchased because I save/invest.
The way I see it, the more money you blow and don't invest/save, the longer you'll be working and more chance one has of running into financial problems down the road. My goal is to retire by the time I'm 50.Comment

Re: I buy so much crap i dont "need"
I buy alot that I don't need but I seperate my check into three parts:
1. The money I need for gas and after gas it goes to buying movies or games
2. Money I'm saving to get something I want(like for my tv that I got last year)
3. Savings account
This system has worked out pretty well for me. I get the things that I want and I have some backup money.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Re: I buy so much crap i dont "need"
It sucks because i just have bad habits with money.
Its almost impossible for me to save, because i always just see something I want. There was a time in my life where i could just buy whatever i wanted, now i cant and i still havent adusted...

Re: I buy so much crap i dont "need"
Man, my Wife and I are the worst at this. I have to have all the systems, all the gamesI want. We had a perfectly good 52 inch DLP, and we went out and bought a 50' Samsung Plasma, because "we wanted to" We constantly go out to eat, and I mean $20, $30, $50 a pop. Our cable bill with NFL Sunday ticket was $185 a month............wow, I think I threw up a little bit in my mouth typing this out.
We have savings and stuff, but man, it could be so much more if we just cut out half the crap....
Cable $1500 yr
Going out to eat $3600
Video Games $1300 a yr
Sporting events $ 800 (going to Cubs/ND games )
Chew(Grizzly-can a day ) $750 a yr
NFL SUnday tix $350 w/HD
MLB Extra Innings $200 yr
Man, Suzie Orman would kick my *** into the ground. I should copy and paste this, and email it to my Wife at her office, so she can see what a bunch money wasting fools we are. The only good part of any of this, is that we use cash for most of it, and really limit our use of credit cards. We have 8 of them, but 6 have 0 balances.Twitch - bluengold34_osComment

My 1st boss told me something that I will never forget
Always buy yourself one thing with your paycheck to remind yourself why you're working.
I'm pretty good now at saving but every once in a while I get the urge and I cop some clothes or gadget. It used to be shoes but once you enter the workforce you can only wear sneakers but so often.Comment

Re: I buy so much crap i dont "need"
Yeah, it's been real nice. My mom is one of the those real schizo's when it comes to the economy so she doesn't mind if I live at home.
I hate it which is why I'm moving out right before summer, but to get rid of all my debt and have a lot of money saved up has definitely been worth it. My only expenses per month have been a little food, gas, cell phone, and small car payment.
I've completely cut fast food out of my diet which has helped tremendously too. That, and my girlfriend living 3 hours away student teaching has been nice on the wallet.Comment

Re: I buy so much crap i dont "need"
I've cut out a lot of unnecessary "stuff" so far this year, but DVDs are still one thing I'm having trouble cutting. I just love owning the physical media.
For my video games, I've pretty much decided to stick with sports games as they get 90-95% of my playing time. I've decided to not get RE5 for example. So MLB 2K9 will be my next game and then I'll be looking to summer and football after that. It's going to save me so much money this year.
So the other major expense for me is alcohol. I buy so...much...beer! Not as much liquor anymore, but a ton of beer. I could save over $100 a month easy if I didn't buy beer.Favorite Sports Teams

MLB - Cincinnati Reds
