What's the best way to make a bully stop? You ignore him.

Thankfully in America, we can whistle tunes anywhere we please.

I can't believe you honestly think this about the right to whistle. Look, the guy did enough to get a restraining order and the nut couldn't control himself after that was levied against him.

All the guy had to do was leave the couple alone. He was no doubt asked to stop. The court ordered him to stop. And he refused to stop. Lets champion civil liberties for people who aren't trying to be a menace to people. Folks want to defend a person's "right" to be annoying instead of the right not to be annoyed.

Its sad how quickly some people run to the justice system these days. Why not try earplugs? How hilarious would it be if the guy's whistling was interrupted by a smiling neighbor asking him how is day was..."Oh youre whistling that tune again? I cant hear you because I have earplugs in my ears..." Bam! Problem solved...That pathetic couple should have paid me instead of some lawyer.

Also how big of a puss is the husband of the elderly couple?? I mean....you think that guy would have whistled at Clint Eastwood from "Gran Torino" for 4 years? No way. Because after 2 days of that **** he wouldve been dealt with. haha.

I understand that what the couple did was a bit extreme (okay, it was quite excessive). But if the man was told not to do it by a court of law, and then did it again, well then he deserves everything he got.

I understand the whole freedom of speech thing, but if a court of law tells you not to do it, you don't do it, or else you face the consequences.

Don't you think they asked him to stop. I'm sure they did everything in their power to legally get him to stop before going to the courts. That didn't stop the guy.

This guy seems like a deadbeat. It sounds like the guy doesn't have a job since he has time to always be there and whistle when they leave. I actually worry about what will happen when the guy gets out. He doesn't seem like the type to take this lightly. He most likely will escalate things and it might end up with the old couple getting hurt or killed.

I bet the worst thing he does when he gets out is whistle at them again.

Seriously guys... jail time for whistling? If I was a judge Id tell both parties to GROW UP. Id tell the whistler to maybe whistle a different tune every once in a while...then Id tell the old people to Wear headphones out to their car. also Id tell them never to waste the judicial system's time and everybody's money on trivial crap like this ever again.
Does this guy (however much of an a-hole he is) really deserve to go to jail for what he has done?(dont say "he disobeyed the courts!" lets assume the establishment made a mistake here)

If all it takes to ruin your life is some guy whistling...your life was most likely crappy to begin with.

Wow, that would have been my argument as his attorney. Really, think of the judicial resources wasted on this case.

Here's the easiest solution, the guy quits being a ****ing loser, no further action necessary.

What don't you people understand. He did not go to jail for Whistling.

Lets say this is happening to my grand parents. Some creep is following them around every time they leave. When they return he's hanging around their apartment. They call me and tell me they are scared of him.

I go and politely ask him to move on. He doesn't stop, my grandparents are still scared. I can't go kick the guys A$$ or I go to jail. So I inform them to call the police.

The police determine my grand parents are being harrassed. They issue a restraining order. The nutjob continues to harrass them. He goes to jail.

Waste of taxpayers dollars sure. So take it out of the nuts wages if he has any by way of a hefty fine. Why is everyone so quick to defens this tool. If the old couple was crazy and over racting the police would have told them to bugger off or whatever they say accross the pond.

Pretty soon you wont be able to crack a joke without being slapped with a lawsuit and forced to deal with your country's legal system.
It just seems like it should have never got to the point where the police were called.

Does anyone else feel like if this happened to them the police wouldnt do anything? However, since it is an emotionally inept elderly couple the justice system must swing into action!

Also, judging by this case, 50% of the people I went to elementary school with should have served jail time. I used to get picked on all the time...everyday for years... by the logic displayed here ALL those people deserve to be in jail.

And to think some people on this earth still have to deal with ridicule... I dont know how they do it...if someone ever made fun of me again I would consider suicide. yea right.

This is an argument that a mommy should entertain...not a court of law (like I mentioned earlier...both parties need to GROW UP)

You aren't getting it. The police deemed this idiot worthy of getting a restraining order. There is more to this story. The newspaper has sucked you in with their headline of "Man jailed for Whistling." And you bought it hook line and sinker. The old people felt threatened. Why are you defending a nutjob that couldn't respect someone's personal space. Even when given a restraining order he just couldn't control himself.

                                Think about it.
