Turbo Tax may make things simpler, but if you don't know what you're doing you can still mess things up. We get a fair amount of people who filed Turbo Tax previously and their returns were done wrong.

Have a good friend who does them for me, he does them for free but I always give him a nice bottle of bourbon.

Used TurboTax myself. Was free. Very simple, got back more than I expected due to credit I wouldn't have known I was eligible for. I'd definitely recommend it.

For whatever reason, I thought you all should know.
No home means you probably are not itemizing. Should be fairly easy. 1040-EZ, your W-2(s) from your employer and any 1099's you may have received. It's been a while, since that was an option, but I think it is pretty much that simple if you are not itemizing. Probably knock it out in under 20 minutes unless there are other circumstances.

I've used turbo tax for the past 9 or 10 years. This will be the first year we owe (only a few hundred bucks) and therefore am waiting as long as possible to submit my payment.

I used to do mine when it was just mine and my wife's W2s. But now we also have a LLC to do with lots of 1099s and various expenses, so I like to have a pro advise me.

I don't know if they are simple or not. I don't make that much money like around 19000-20000 a year and I always end up owning money. This year it cost 70 to get them done and then I get back 60 and have to pay like 79 so I lose like 89. My mom tried to show me how to do them before but she was confused so I have no idea how to do them. I mean how can you learn to do something if the person trying to show you doesn't know how to do it lol.

Owing money has more to do with your W4 than how not knowing how to do your taxes. In your case, it should be a piece of cake. Sounds like you either work on tips, or there isn't enough taken out of your check initially. Your taxes are likely as basic as your gross income minus the standard deduction and personal exemption, and that's your taxable. Done.

Just get an 1040EZ form and follow the directions. It's that easy to learn. Hell, even the 1040 I've been using the past few years isn't that hard. It's when you start having to dig into other forms and schedules that it gets a little more complicated.

They aren't that hard and everything has checked out the past couple of years. I always do my state on the side after that. Once you've done federal, most states are almost copy and paste and thankfully, I'm not filing in 3 different states this year.
I used them for the first time too. Had no idea until this year you can file for free if you make under a certain amount. I've always paid $17ish for HR Block.

I'll take the hit to use a service for peace of mind. Taxes confuse me. I mean, you're still just entering the same info, TT and other services just simplify it.

As mentioned, if you own a business it's not only not that simple, it's probably not smart to do them yourself unless you really know what you're doing. Not only is it a pain in the *** but getting audited a few years down the road would be an even bigger pain in the ***. For me, adding filing in multiple states and yeah... I have no problem paying someone to take care of it for me.
