Anyone Have Problems with Lending Family/Friends $ ?

Was reading an old Essence magazine while I was eating at work and I came across this article talking about how black women around the nation seem to be in this situation constantly.

Lending out $, not getting paid back, but those same folks ask for more money. But being a "good" family member/friend, they feel guilty and end up giving it up again.

Do you know anyone that suffers from this?
    Concrete evidence/videos please

Yes I have a problem with it.

I have no money. No money, no lending.

I'll lend money to my friends when they ask. My family members have never asked me.

Most people will pay me back. If it's a small amount I'm usually pretty lax about it.

Whenever someone picks up a check for lunch or something I always make sure to call them the next week to schedule another one where I can pick up the check.

I'm just a nice guy I guess. I believe you should pay off debts to people in your life.

Lending money to family really isn't worth it. If the deal goes sour at all, there goes your relationship with that family member.

I'm not lending anybody anything to be honest. I don't trust people enough. I'd only loan my mom money but she's rich so she doesn't care.

Depends on what it is for and whether or not they are honest about it.

Re: Anyone Have Problems with Lending Family/Friends $ ?

                        i HIGHLY advise against it...

i loaned a guy at my church $2,000 - 2 years ago they were refinancing their home and needed to get their property taxes paid. instead of going to the church leadership i felt it best to keep this between he and i, so (against my better judgment) i loaned him the money...with the idea that i'd have it back in 3 weeks (it was a temporary deal to get them squared away).

also, i didn't tell my wife...she NEVER looks at the savings account...so i figured i'd slide the money over to the account, not write the check in and then just put the money back later...in essence, it was all a wash and no big deal.

well, the guy screwed me over and never paid me back...i went to the church leadership and the church gave me the money back. they then wrote up a contract with him about repaying the money.

i had every right to sue the guy, but my beliefs lead me to believe i shouldn't do that...just a personal thing. needless to say, i'll NEVER do this for anyone again...
