Man, why on earth cant I get into baseball....

I figured once I took this job w\ the MLB it would be automatic....I mean, I have a love for the actual game...I love to play it...and there plenty of players I like in the sport...some which ive actually met...

Ive gone to a couple of games in some different places, and really had a blast....but I just CANT develop a love for professional baseball. It sucks man, b\c I actually want to...

maybe it just isnt in me? Is it one of those things that you just had to grow up into?

I enjoy watching baseball games...if I'm actually at the game, but I've just never been able to get into baseball by watching it on TV. Most regular games just seem pointless to me. Unfortunately for me, living in Nebraska the only live baseball I ever get to see is College Baseball. I go to a lot of the Nebraska games, and it's pretty sweet because they are usually pretty good, but it's not the same as MLB. Also, it sucks because the closest pro team is the Royals.

On the other hand...Nebraska does have the College World Series...so that is always fun to go to!

Do you have a favorite team? To me, baseball is probably the sport in which it's most important to have a favorite team in order to get into the game.

Welcome to the life of non-American-residents. But I DO enjoy watching baseball games. It's still in 3rd place (after basketball and football) but it's still before hockey. 5 months ago I watched the Northern League - Gary vs Winnipeg - and it was very fun to watch, though I was rooting for Winnipeg and they lost badly. I can't see myself enjoying this game better than basketball or football, but to me it's still more enjoyable than many other sports.
Oh, and I never ever played baseball, that should be interesting. We actually have a small league here - but no thanks. As I alwas say: leave baseball to the pros.

I can't get into baseball (although I used to love it and my family has historical ties to the sport) because of the pace of the game. It just moves so slowly at times that I can't get into it. That and my favorite team being the Kansas City Royals sort of does me in for even being able to try to get into it by watching my favorite team play.

I love baseball. It has a whole vibe to it... starts up in the spring when the weather is always nice (not too hot, not too cold), my birthday's around that time, summer coming up. As for the game itself, I like that it's a bit slower paced. It's a change from the non stop action of hockey or football. It's more of an art, if you will. Nothing like spending a spring or summer night watching the featured game in hi def.

I like baseball a lot and I often will watch about 3-5 games a week if I can. The thing about the game that I like the most is the easy pace of it. It's one of those games that you can watch and get into a vibe with.

I do find that it's better to watch the game live then on TV. Often when I watch a game on TV it seems a lot longer then it is but when i'm at the ballpark the game seems to go by a lot quicker. Too bad i've got such bad vision because even in pretty good seats I have to pull out the binoculars to see what's going on.

I also find that it's the perfect radio sport. I love to lay in bed or relax in a chair and just listen to the radio broadcasts as it allows the radio PBP guys to tell stories while painting a picture of what's going on. Too bad the radio and TV doesn't sync up because I know for damn sure that i'd rather listen to Jerry Howarth calling the game instead of Jamie Campbell.

Man, don't beat yourself up over it. Baseball can be a hard game to "love". I grew up 70 miles from Wrigley, and we went to over 150 Cubs games as a kid. There was a passion there from the beginning, and it only grows stronger as you get older. I assume you know the game really well, but doesn't mean you have to love it.

It helps to have a favorite team, player(s), stadium...those all breed love, excitement, passion, and loyalty. Think about the things you love in life, they all have certain criteria that allow that passion, excitement and love to grow. I don't think you can just decide one day to love pro ball............you have to have a focal point thats allows everything I described to grow and become emotionally ingrained.

I probably went way over board, but as a baseball fan in the purist form for over 30 years, its the moments, the experiences, and the memories, that make it my favorite sport ever...........

It's definitely not a sport you can casually watch IMO. Like with basketball, especially college hoops, I can watch almost any game and be entertained. Baseball, if it's not the Yankees (or Mets on occasion) there is no way I can sit through a full game.

Re: Man, why on earth cant I get into baseball....

I love baseball. Love it. Love everything about it. Playing, watching, practicing, training, watching again. I can and have revolved my life around a baseball schedule.

But, I can completely understand why people don't like it or have trouble getting into it. It's not like other sports. I think of it mostly like a book instead of a movie. You know the good part is coming, but then strike one! Great, here's another paragraph or two of the pitcher pacing around, batter stretches, great we get it. Just pitch! Ok, here goes, annnnd...ball one! Nice. Ok. Runner on third, one out, game tied. Something is gonna happen here right? Flip the page.

And on it goes. But, I guess I just get that drama, that suspense. I appreciate it. To me, it's the only sport besides tennis and golf where every single move affects the entire game.

There's nothing wrong with you if you can't get it (yes there is). And maybe you'll never grow into it. I'm not sure what I can say to somebody to learn to like it.

I've had this conversation with a girl from Canada. She loves hockey. She thinks baseball is boring. She gets that I love it, but she'll never understand. I don't think I can ever get her to.

Here's how some of the people I know see baseball - I was talking to my brother about baseball and here's his reaction: "Baseball? That boring game? They do nothing, it's just so boring!"... I was trying very hard to explain why it's interesting, but he didn't get it.

Baseball is one of those Mind game sports.

                        Man'o - e - Man'o

Me verse you, hit my best pitch.

and thats just the pitcher batter duel!

Pedro Martinez is my all time favorite pitcher ever, because he was a GANGSTA on the mound, if he didnt liek you or gfelt you were crowding HIS plate, hed throw right at you, he didnt give a damn!, then he would sit there and stare at you, like "Bitch! back the Eff up off my plate!"..that to me is pure gold.

Anyway though man if you really want to get into it i suggest just dont try to overwhelm yourself with all of the details and stats and whatever, causal start watching some hometown team games, hen start learning who has the personality you liek following, then from there youre learn what they are good at, etc etc.. on and on until you know the majority of players.

I jsut started getting BACK into it Last year. Ive always been a giants fan, but baseball was liek my third favorite sport, I lvoe the pticher batter duel and love to watch good pitchers pitch, but then i started learnign more.

Fantasy sports also help a lot too....makes you want to watch.

I only asked because if anyone says baseball is boring then they should try watching cricket because that's even MORE boring though I kinda have the jist for it. I can watch it for a bit but I don't think I could see myself watching a whole cricket match.
