    Sports games Time Limit Tuning

I been thinking about this for sometime. Game developers such as EA tune with sports games so a full game last around 30 min real time. So all the gameplay is increased in the occurance of things such as FUMBLES, GOALS, FOULS, etc. What we get is a juiced version of the sport we want replicated.

Most of us here get the game in our hands then adjust the game quarters or periods so we get realistic stats such as time of possession, amount of snaps taking, amount of shots on goals, etc etc.

Increasing the time limit then goes and affects other parts of the game then those areas must be tweeked to fix what we tweeked.

My question to you is, do you agree with a 30min full game tuning such as this? Would you rather see a higer play time per game?

I for one tend to tune most of my games last around 1 hour. This is a good flat even time that gives good results and a good amount of time it "feels" like a game and also not drawn out to the point of the real thing. Good mix inbetween.

I went 30 minutes. As I get older and have more responsibilities (family, work, house) there is less time for games. So the quicker (with semi realistic stats) the better for me.

30 minutes for me. It's nice being able to sit down and hammer out a game, though 45 might be the sweet spot.

I know some folks will add that the lack of "in game" saves and such hamper things, I would never use them. If a full game took an hour plus, I'd be real into it, save in the fifth inning or something, and forget all about what led up to what when I resumed in a few hours, day, or what have you.

It depends on the sport, really. I don't feel like I can get a realistic, fulfilling experience in 30 minutes of football... I need about 60.

But 30 minutes isn't too short for basketball or hockey... it's about the quickest I can play and feel like I played a "real" game, stats-wise and fulfillment.

One game that I really enjoyed where games would last around 30 minutes was MLB power pros. I could get in a good, realistic game in half an hour, which made it so much easier to get through baseball seasons. I finished a couple full seasons in that game.

I'll take anywhere from 30-60 minutes and be happy with it. I really don't like to play one game that takes more than an hour, unless it goes into overtime or extra innings.

45-60 minutes. I like to get realistic scores/numbers and I'd rather shorten my season than shorten my game (baseball/basketball/nobody cares about hockey).

I went with an hour. As a baseball fan, you need an hour to get realistic results as far as working the count and getting pitch counts up. As fun as it is to go up and hack at everything, there is some pride in drawing a walk after a 10 pitch battle. I skip most of the cut scenes and non-action releated stuff so that I can spend as much time actually playing the game.

With basketball and football, I like 6-8 minute quarters, which works out to about 45-50 minute games.

                  good topic.

Personally I like to play the full 12 minutes qtrs, 20 minute halves, 20 minute periods, 9 inning games, etc.

Because i jsut dont feel like when/if the game is close you can accuratly represent the "Crunch time" last 2 minutes of a game, or crucuail situations...

Theres nothing better to me then playing a intense back and forth basketball game, and in the last 2 minutes really trying to either preserve a lead, or take the lead.

also i dont like messing with too many sliders, it becomes a job, but i will do slight tweaks to get my game experience the way i want it.

its a logn time to play but i feel liek i want to get the same expereince as i do when actually watching a game, so thats why I do it.

same here man. my games in THE SHOW usually lasts about an hour and a half with some of them even lasting 2 hours. (quick story: i once bumped my pitch count slider to +5 and had a game go 19 innings that lasted almost 4 1/2 hours! thats a little too long) i play a full 12 in basketball and 12min a quarter in Madden (15 is too long lol).

i dont have kids so i have no problem getting all the time to put into my games

I don't remember the last time I've ever finished a game in 30 minutes, even MLB Power Pros.

                      Give me 60 minutes.

I used to go full 12 minutes in NBA 2k series, but I just cannot do that anymore.

The max would be an hour and a half, least is 30...so I'll say an hour.

All depends on the sport and whether or not I can get realistic stats out of it.

                          FIFA - 10min Halves
                          College Hoops - 16min Halves

Re: Sports games Time Limit Tuning

I just don't like the "compressed" idea. I understand they don't wanna draw out the games to much. BUT what this does is singles out the realism crowd from the "Mt. Dew" crowd.

I wish game developers would include a realism setting. Just like the add different skill levels. Lets add a realism time setting.

Now most would say, "There is time limit options!!!!!". I understand that, but the game is not "tweeked" for those longer times. So what you get is a game that last the real amount of time. BUT now you have crazy stats such as 8 fumbles, 9 INTs, football scores of 80+ points.

There needs to be a setting for the gameplay to be tweeked for the longer times.

I would suggest "tweeking" each time limit.

So another words if you play on 5 min quarters, the gameplay will be tweeked to give out real type stats for that time limit.

Then say you set quarter limit to 10 min quarters. The gameplay should be set for those times.

The way it is now is the gameplay is tweeked for 5 min quarters (or whatever type of game). But if you add more time per quarter/period the gameplay stays tweeked for the shorter time.
