So, our high school varsity basketball team loses its first-round game of our state tournament by 2 points Tuesday night. Kids are sad, seniors are devastated, the typical.
Thursday, we turn in all of our gear and start talking about the banquet date, post-season evals, and off-season work.
Friday afternoon, we get word that we're BACK IN THE TOURNAMENT!! Come to find out the team we lost to used an ineligible player and self-reported it to the state athletic association and had to forfeit the game. So...we scrounge up our gear, throw together a quick practice for our regional final game THE NEXT DAY!!
We were the #4 seed and lost to a #13. The #12 beat the #5, so the 12 was going to host the 13. However, now that the 13 had to forfeit, we (as the 4) get to host the game.
Today is going to be a crazy day to get the kids calmed down and try to take on a 6'6" center that has some serious game. We're trying to get our players prepared, but at some point you just have to say, "Let's roll the ball out and control what WE can control. Have fun. You have a 2nd chance, let's make the most of it."
