Would you order a console off Craigslist?

Don't know if this belongs in the Non-Sports Gaming or Console forums but figured it'd generate more responses here.

I'm looking to buy a PS3 but $400 is a little steep right now. I've seen a few on Craigslist used going for $300. Would you guys buy a console off Craigslist? I'm kind of worried about buying it and it crapping out on my in a week.

Opinions?

I have bought both a 360 and a PS3 used off of Craigslist before, and I never had any problems either system. I guess just be careful and follow your gut feeling with the person you are doing business with.

Also, I made sure that I could see both systems turned on, ran with a game in them, just to make sure that there was nothing funny about the startup, and game being played.

Provided that M$ still has the 3 year window to replace RROD by simply giving the number from the plate on the back, definitely. In fact, that's what I did when our refurbdepot model crapped out and their warranty co. screwed me. In my case, I was able to go to the home where it was and pick it up. Plus, the story behind getting rid of it (kid was in college and needed to study) made sense. So, I guess I'm saying as long as it doesn't seem like a shady deal... yes for the 360's.

Hell no. There are so many weirdos on craigslist. The only thing you can be really sure about craigslist is the dating page

or casual encounters.

I got a 360 off of craigslist, and was able to test it out, play a game and see if it was tampered with. It still was within MS's warranty so it was fine. As long as you don't meet in a walmart parking lot somewhere and do the deal without seeing that it works, you'll be fine.

I have a chance to buy a PS3 for $310 from a guy off Craigslist. He claims he doesn't want it because he just doesn't like the games and is looking at a 360. He says he's only had it for two months and it's barely been used.

Do PS3's come with warranties? Should I pull the trigger?

I bought my PS3 for $275 off craigslist. Runs just fine.

I am too iffy on things like computers, consoles, tv's etc... no way to tell if they work or not. If you can see them while turned on to make sure they work, then I guess so... but I don't think I could do it.

eh...CL is a lil shady man. I met a few chicks on there and they turned out to be fat. so in video games terms pretty much the console was only fun once then you stopped playin it.

I would. CL is the first place I look whenever I'm about to get something new. If someone has it for cheap and the product is in good condition, I'll buy it.

Never bought a console though. As bk said, I'd try and setup an encounter where you'd be able to play it and test it out before purchasing.

I got my PS3 off CL.

Just be smart.

Make sure the seller has a good motive for selling the thing
